Hey! I got aq car in a box I'm supposed to assemble for a fellow. It's a '56 Chev wagon, and I am trying to put the rear brakes together. I am having issues in that I do not have a diagram to refer to, so I have a question... Does the p-brake lever go behind, or in front of the shoe.. that is.. backing plate side, or drum side? Thanks. it's going to be a cool rod when it's done.
Great site. Has scans of many old shop manuals. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/ http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955/index.html Mike
Parking brake lever attaches to the secondary shoe (the rear shoe), the length of the secondary shoe will always be longer than the lining of the primary shoe (forward shoe). Lubricate the "shoulder" of the bolt which secures the parking brake lever.
X2. For more clarification: The parking brake lever mounts on the backside of the secondary shoe or the backing plate side and not the drum side.
