I made this small 16 ga channel for a guy and charged him 10$ for it.He said that is all 10 bucks? It was only 12" long by 3" wide with 2 1" bends. The whole part took me 10 mins. to make.He told everywhere else wanted 50-65 dollars.I joked with him and told him I can double it if he wants me to.I give away small flat scrap when folks call and I have it and they try give me some even I say no.I try to be fair and have helped out a few locals.

Alot of people dont believe in fair anymore. I think it is cool that he acted this way. At least he made that comment insted of can i get 100 more. Then later you find out he is selling them in evil :D. You did a good thing by helping out for the amount you charged. Most people want to know what its for the charge half of new.

I think people have become so jaded anymore that when someone does something nice they don't know how to respond. We are more accustomed to being screwed these days.

I just had that happen to me. I took the radiator for my 27 to a local shop because the seam on the top tank was splitting a little. A nice Cuban man was the shop worker who looked at it and said he would do it with silver solder so it would hold up better than regular solder. When I went in to pick it up the next day I could see he had spent some time doing it the right way so I slipped him a $ 20. The owner of the place came out and saw me tipping him and when I asked him how much I owed for the repair he said "You already took care of it, you owe us nothing !" I protested, but he wouldn't take any more money. So there are nice, honest businesses out there even today. :)

  6. I dunno... I took a pile of stuff to sell at the Rockabilly Rumble a few weekends ago. At the end of the day I packed up what didn't sell and placed a small pile of stuff and a big "FREE" sign on the table and walked away. When I came back an hour later 90% of it was still there! And it wasn't junk, there were some taillights, brand new beer mugs from the (now defunct) NSRA Richmond show, things that might have made interesting shifter handles, etc... I even offered the beer mugs to a guy that I saw while he was walking around with a NSRA Richmond t-shirt on and told him to go over to my table and get the mugs and he looked at me like I was crazy.

  7. You did the right thing and so did the shop owner, and guess where you'll go next time you need some radiator work done. Everyone wins. I hope this kind of thing catches on.

  14. Funny I thought the same thing. I always go back as well as tell my friends when someone treats me right. If I get screwed, I tell everyone too.

It says more about the times we live in when it's a rare thing to not get screwed over.

    You're a good man, Charlie Brown. =)

yeah, its just the bad get more air play than the good.. humans sure like drama.. i doubt the news would get much attention if it was all rays of sunshine coming out of all the jack ass politicians.. nope, human nature is a trip..

i stop watching the news years ago.. i do not think i miss much and from I can remember.. the internet is ahead of news by about 3 days compare to the tv..

    go go go internet.

I find that when you do something nice for someone or help them in some way it comes back to you many times over.

The simple things in life are Free such as simply be nice or saying thank you.

Many things in life cost money but being nice is something that does not cost anything.

Whenever I am in a store and the clerk does not look happy about something I always make a point to say thank you and have a nice day.

Try it it works every time!!!

    dirtpoor,
People might be amazed as kindness doesn't come to call too often? Cool that you do that!
Sure wish we lived in similar parts of Maryland? There's a metal shop in Rawlings that fabs metal ? inexpensively for guys if they take their hot rod or a pic of it there.
There's a "car show" there frequently.

  21. I was helping my neighbor finish the deck on the side of his house. Took a couple hours maybe. He furnished drinks and his wife ran for burgers. When done he asks me how much he owes me. It blew me away! I then cut a hole in the hood of his race car and made some brackets to mount the hood scoop to. Again, he askes "How much do I owe you"?. Dont friends do things for friends any more?
