i have a stude bellhousing that has the mount for a ford. ( well, early ford) i also have a mustang t-5 that i wanna use. the bottom bolt holes match perfectly. the top, however are out farther that flat area of the bell housing. can i just drill thru the bell and bolt it there? possibly weld a kinda wedge made outa pipe to give the inner bolt something to "seat" against? (ya get what i'm saying?) the pilot shaft is correctly centered, i'll just need something to give the top a good surface to bolt to. i know dragnwgn289 used a truck bellhousing, but they are harder to find. any ideas?
Try Wilcap. That dude makes all kinds of adaptors. BTW....did ya sell those drop spindles off your wagon?
Check out this link. Lots of good info regarding your exact swap, as well as other trannies. Good luck! http://studebakerdriversclub.com/tech_5speed.asp A paragraph or two under "B: Ford Toploader" it goes into detail about the T5. I think it was just a typo that they didn't make the T5 it's own section... but it's in there.
Yes, you can extend the bell housing to the bolts. MAKE SURE THE BEARING RETAINER IS CENTERED!! There is an input shaft that will fit perfectly into the Mustang T-5 and the Stude pilot bushing with no modification, I think it was off a Jeep. Do a search on Stude.com and you should be able to find it after they get the site back up. I tested my WCT-5 into my Stude bellhousing just to see how easy it would be and it looks like a piece of cake. Too bad it is slated for a different car.
