I recently found out I have a FMX transmission behind my 289, I originally thought it was a C4. I bought a Lokar 23" double bend nostalgia shifter from Speedway almost a year ago, when I was buying parts in advance to keep me going on my build. Well I don't think Speedway will take this one back in trade for the correct FMX shifter, so I will probably have to modify the mounting bracket for the one I have. The c4 bracket is pretty close to fitting the FMX. My question is can this be done? Is the 3 speed shift pattern the same on a FMX as a C4? Is there enough adjustment in the linkage?
I had a fmx and pattern is the same. The c4 the lever is pointed down,so you would have to see if its in down position.ON the c4 you remove the lever and the locker slides on and tighten it up.Have it in park and move it till you get all gears. If it backwards the lever will be on top.
Yeah Speedway doesn't carry the FMX shifter, so they will just refund money but they want a 15% re-stock fee plus I will have to pay to ship, then I will have to go to someone else to buy the shifter and pay for it to be shipped. What a pain. I geuss I got a lil while to figure out what to do.
I had just the opposite situation. I bought an FMX from an individual and needed a C-4. I bought the change over kit from Lokar. I still have the FMX stuff, I am sure. If you want to price the kit and make me a decent offer, plus shipping, I will be glad to sell it to you. PM me your email or phone if interested.
