I sold my three Chryslers to some racers from NC and they are taking one down, follow along and see what its like. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Los-Hemi-gos/224990594198623#!/pages/Los-Hemi-gos/224990594198623?sk=wall
the car on facebook is one I started building in 1995 with the help of a couple of local shops, of course they have gone through the car and corrected my poor design and workmanship.
foolthrottle - Thanks for the link! ... The "Los Hemi-gos" '55 Chrysler C-300 Carrera Panamericana racer is very cool! For those HAMBers without access to , here's a handful of the pics that have been posted on the Los Hemi-gos fb wall: click thumbnails to enlarge
Thanks HEMI32 my expectation is these guys will drive a solid race and finish. other teams had a couple of blown motors/engines and crashes before the race even started should give you some idea how wild this thing is.
Actually ... they don't finish until today: * Stage/Day 1 ... Friday, October 21 ... Huatulco to Oaxaca * Stage/Day 2 ... Saturday, October 22 ... Oaxaca to Puebla * Stage/Day 3 ... Sunday, October 23 ... Puebla to Querétaro * Stage/Day 4 ... Monday, October 24 ... Querétaro to Morelia * Stage/Day 5 ... Tuesday, October 25 ... Morelia to Guanajuato * Stage/Day 6 ... Wednesday, October 26 ... Guanajuato to Aguascalientes * Stage/Day 7 ... Thursday, October 27 ... Aguascalientes to Zacatecas
A few "end of Day 5" pics from the Los Hemi-gos wall: click thumbnails to enlarge NOTE: At the end of Stage 5, the #363 "Los Hemi-gos" (Kevin Kelly & Bjorn Nordemo) '55 Chrysler C-300 was in 47th place overall ... and 17th place in their cl*** (Historic C)!
Right today is the finish 27th. no new posting on face book, my guess is the throwout bearing issues came back. In Mexico, Murphy's Law is strictly enforced.
Speaking of Murphy's Law ... Here's another HEMI-powered car entered in the 2011 La Carrera Panamericana: David Buchanan's 1954 Chrysler New Yorker @ the 2011 Palo Alto Concours D'Elegance (June 26, 2011) Unfortunatey, the "Original Pan Am" cl*** entry of David Buchanan / Raffi Najjarian dropped out of the race on Day 2.
I always took an interest in what breaks during the race, some people were annoyed and one guy said "you love it when stuff breaks." I don't, but for me it doesn't hurt to think about what might fail when you are putting something together.
The overall winner of the 2011 La Carrera Panamerican was the #102 entry of Richardo Triviño (driver) & Marco Hernandez (navigator) ... in their 1953 Studebaker Champion: click thumbnails to enlarge
I just spoke with the Chrysler team and they are satisfied with their mid pack finish. The race has been described as a 7 day root c****, rock star tour, traveling circus, marine boot camp. They are already planning next year.
for a few years in the 90's there was a guy with a 48 Plymouth, El Pantera Rosa Caliente or the hot pink panther, it had an Australian hemi 6, 4 speed and was credible. The paint on the car was day-glow, you could literally see it for miles I joked that I was going paint a racing stripe on it with the same stuff they paint white lines on the highway.
59th Overall ... 20th in the Historic-C cl***! Congrats to Kevin Kelly, Bjorn Nordemo and the entire "Los Hemi-gos" team! Here's a few more pics of their #363 '55 Chrysler C-300 during the '11 LCP: click thumbnails to enlarge

Hey Guys, Just got home from the greatest spectacle in motorsports, this is my second year and I swear Mexico and the Panamericana never fails to humble and amaze me from the highest highs to the lowest lows in emotion and energy in one week. We took the Caddy again this year with a lot of improvements and changes and we were running 7th overall and on day 5 got loose and hit a gaurd rail damaging the whole left side and ruining 2 wheels and tires. We repaired the car and delt with a couple of other issues along the way and after the lost time from the crash we finished 24th overall, not bad but we were hopeful of a top 10 finish, Oh Well, rubbin is racin and sometimes you come out on the losing end. Come to the Hot Rod Garage open house and see the Caddy and here the war stories. Nov. 12 2011 here are a few pics, enjoy Jason HRG
Here are some more, the flag is an original 1954 flag that a Hotel employees grandfather gave him, had lots of faded signatures by Phil Hill and Bill volkavich and several others! 119 cars started and 79 finished it is one tough mother! here are some more pics
