Can someone help me figure out what year this Chevy 235 engine is. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
looks like a 61 or 62 truck engine, if you find the casting date, back by the starter, then you could figure it out for sure. A letter followed by a few numbers, like D 16 1 letter is the month, A=January, B=Feb, etc middle numbers are the day of the month the last digit is the last digit of the year it was made. Since the engine was ***embled April 19 (04 19) I'd expect the casting date to start with D
yup, that's what it is. I got out the older book and looked it up, the JC code was used from 1959-1962. I did pretty good guessing the day....
Flint is my home town. I use to go by the plant where they stored the 6 cylinder blocks outside to yet them age. I might have seen that block. I also hauled fill sand and gravel to V8 engine plant when it was being built. Hauled all one summer with a 54 chev dump truck with a 261 engine.
Patricks catalog has a casting number to year chart - take a look here near the last page... http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/chevy_parts.html
Curious engines. The main bearings are all different sizes, like this. http://www.toy-wooden.com/wood rings.jpeg The combustion chamber hangs over the bore, and the ex valve lives in a cave. http://www.flickr.com/photos/riels/4009562943/lightbox/
