The "ARTSY" pics PDQ posted are the best shots on this thread. Well thought out, nicely composed etc etc.
I dont know if this is considered Artsy by everyone but I think this is a great picture,it shows cool lighting and its kind of an overall shot. "Slick Willys pic"
Looks like he probably removed the sponsors from the barricade and probably removed some garbage from around the fence. Good guess? Sponsors are a common problem in drag strip photos. Mostly when trying to capture a vintage shot... none of the sponsors look remotely vintage and tracks these days are littered with them
The thing is, not everybody looks at the same things in photos. To me the details and sometimes craftsmanship are what makes a lot of this beautiful. I just went to Hot Rod Reunion and there were hundreds of people walking around taking photos of what they wanted to see. I saw beauty in the details. I make pictures that talk to me and make me feel like I did when I was there. Cars, like women, can be sexy. The perspective, lighting and exposure all add up to how I see things. Everyone has their perspective. If you don't care for mine you don't have to look at them. I'm not selling you anything but I'm sharing my time, effort and perspective for free. Enjoy it, or don't. I posted a few what you might call "artsy" photos on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/themdidit/sets/72157627848677367/ I also shot rolls of 120 film on a 1951 twin lens reflex camera that is slow, cumbersome and soft that I may post someday. But they may be too "artsy". But I shoot for me anyway...
"I also shot rolls of 120 film on a 1951 twin lens reflex camera that is slow, cumbersome and soft that I may post someday. But they may be too "artsy". But I shoot for me anyway..." McGee......old 120 film, twin lens reflex Rollei's and Yashica's are *traditional*....... CB
Actually shot with a Zeiss Ikoflex. Left the Yashica at home. Next year I'm thinking 4x5 Graflex Speed Graphic from 1948. That should definitely be "traditional".
"This is exactly what we are talking about. I think it is nice and maybe something you would like to hang on the wall but no one can tell squat about your roadster or even that it is a roadster from those shots." Do they need to know the model if they like the picture? If it wasn't my own car I'd hang it on the wall.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
