I just got a ticket on my '54 Chevy today for having no license plate on he front...... Does anybody know if this can be fought in N.Y.C.? Did they have 2 plates originally?
Just realized that my grandfather had a 53,but he had a plate on the front that said "Empire State" on it
I have my '50 Shoebox registered with a single 1950 plate. 1950 was a single plate year so I don't think I could get a ticket for not having a front plate.
New York used a single plate in 1954. Actually a 1953 plate with a "54" tag covering the "53" on the corner. That said, did you have 54 plates on the car or the modern plate? If it's a modern plate, you've got no defense.
If you have the other plate; can you just put it on and have it inspected like a fix-it ticket, or is there a fine involved? We used to do fix-it tickets all the time and they were free. If not, tell the judge it was stolen.
If you're running YOM plates, you should be able to successfully fight it on the basis that '53-'54 is a single plate year. If you're running regular plates, then just put the damn front plate on, take a picture into court, and they should throw it out. They did for me about a dozen years ago.
