Mike - Enjoyed talking with you at Henderson. Looks like you've been doing your homework on all the old Falcons. Good luck with your project - let me know if I can help. TH

  2. The "El Condor" Falcon has come full circle Socal to Colorado and back to SoCal. It is not mine, but I do know the new care taker. We had it out at CHRR, and it got many comments. This thing is a time machine. No updates/modifications, etc... from when it was retired. td did not change hands, but there seemed to be a few very interested. As it stands now the new care taker wants to protect the paint without messing it up. It has a little mildew on it and some dust. Any suggestions out there on how to do this. I am thinking a simple wash down and possibly a coat or two of either semi closs, or gloss clear. Beyond that the plan is to clean the interior up and drop a small block Ford in backed by I am still unsure what transmission. The new care taker like gtbpappy here would love to stumble onto any pics of it in its original glory. There is a green sticker on the fuel tank with a 1979 date on it. That is the only date we've seen so far. Don't think it has any earth shattering history, as based on some of the information and such put it a little later than what most are interested in here. If I am there for any of the upcoming updates' I'll try and take pics for the HAMB crew. Planning on having it moving under it's own power maybe for the March Meet, but who knows.

Dick Walters was just in my shop, he has never heard of the HAMB and is unaware of the nostalga movement. But his eyes sure lit up when he thought back when he and Hubert were tearing shit up. He is coming back to the shop in a couple days and do some reminiscing so's i can get it down. he said he never saved any pics from back then all he has is the model car kits they made of his car.[IMG]

He said he had two cars, Hubert and the boys would get them to the track and Dick would fly a plane in and land on the track, he'd drivew one car while hubert drove the other - he said Hubert sure could drive and remembered the time when Hubert kept the car on the rear bumper all the way down the track at the summer nationals (i think, the storys came so quick that i might've mixed them up) and he said 66,000 people just went nuts. He also spoke of going thru 10 cammer motors at one event, Ford didn't care. He told of buying cars from Carroll Shelby, he bought a dozen or so gt350 and 2 cobras at one time and was talking to carroll and asked about a few cars over in the corner of the shop that were covered. Carroll said they were his old race cars and offered to sell them to Dick for 3500 each, but Dick had just spent a bunch as it was and passed!
If you guys have any questions or anything for when he comes back pm or email me and i will be sure to ask. I am trying to get him to join up.

zombie289...as I understand it, sometime after the "Shaker" left Hubert Platt's ownership, a subsequent owner reversed the front & rear bumpers (yes, they are Falcon bumpers just on the wrong ends). That is the way it was found and that is the way current owner, Tim Holland, has left it.

Does anyone know of a source for a 64/65 Falcon radiator core support? I've looked in Obsolete, Macs & Carpenter catalogs but not much sheet metal. Am I overlooking someone? Shame you can't adapt Mustang stuff, its everywhere.

MD1320guy;you are stuck with finding a good used one.A 64/65 Comet will work too,you need to open the dimpled area where the Falcon headlights go,but other than that they are the same.I used a 65 Falcon one for a 65 Comet, just filled in the headlight holes.I never thought much about core supports when saving parts from parts cars, now I know to save them!! 2/3 of mine is salvagable but the pass side (battery tray area) is really eaten up across the bottom. Guess I'll have to find a good sheet metal artist to rebuild it (the guys on "Muscle Car" do it all the time). Maybe make a mold off it and make them in fiberglass.

I had my chassis guy come by the shop last week and look at the wagon project, just waiting for an estimate so I can hopefully get it to him in the near future. My 64 Galaxie is going to the paint shop in the next couple of weeks so I have to spread things out a bit,, Can't wait to finally start on the Wagon and see something done.

OK fellow HAMBers, I need a little direction here.
I am about to tackle the rear quarters on my AWB Falcon project but can't decide on the wheelwells. Since the bottom of the quarters are rusted out, I have a blank slate beltline down & door to bumper.

First possibility is the "stock" wheelwell like Balkin's Falcon (pic 1). But it just looks too small with a 30" - 32" tire.

Then there is the "stretched" wheelwell like Platt's Georgia Shaker & Bonner (pic 2 & 3). Period correct but looks a bit excessive.

Or maybe the "west coast" wheelwell like Platt's Iowa Shaker (pic 4). It looks kinda like an econoline van wheelwell.

How about a compromise between the "stock" & "stretched". Maybe , say, 4" - 6" longer than stock instead of 10" - 12".

Last, I could just find some currently available aftermarket skins from "whatever" that looks good and graft them in.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. C'mon Dale, Roy, Ken, Eddie, Dave, et al. Give me some advise.....Mike

I'm gonna do the wheelwells on the wagon 5-6 inches in the rear and 3 inches in the front. I was looking at mine and thought it would be a good place to meet in the middle, I want it to have an altered look but not to extreme. the wagon has a window pillar right above the 5-6 inch axle centerline if I move it forward and I believe that would be a good point. The other reason is the wagon has all that rear window space and I want it to look right. I going to run a 10.5 x 29.5 tire with a 10" wheel, I personally don't like the big 14x32" tire look, want mine to look somewhat close to the way they looked in the 60's era. I love the way the front fenders look on the Balkin's Falcon (one of my favorites!)

I like 3 or a combination of 1 and 3 (Balkins doesnt look stretched enough to look right to me and Phil Bonner's could be a couple inches shorter)

Nice to meet a fellow sedan owner. Your car looks really nice. I like the way you did your wheelwells. What size tire? I lived down the road in Newnan, GA for 10 years (1995-2005)

These are the wheel wells on the Wild Child. They were done in 1966 when Rankin Ford altered the wheelbase.

I can do some additional close up detailed photos if you would like.

Yep. 32 years with Delta. Took the golden parachute buyout retirement after 911 then got screwed on the "paid medical for life" when they filed bankruptcy.

That sounds interesting. Can't wait to see it all come together. If I could figure out how to start a thread on here I would do a build thread with all my pics. I don't want to monopolize this thread with all my stuff.

Thanks for your input. I'm leaning that direction myself.

Thanks for the close-up without the wheel/tire. Very helpful. What is the "swiss cheese" bracket under the framerail? Is it an air bag mount on both sides?
