350 350 combo, when trying to start turns over a couple time the locks up. try it again ,same thing. sounds like something internal locking the engine. I can turn it over by hand fromthe flywheel and it doesnt lock. I cant see any chipped teeth on the starter or flywheel, ran great yesterday , no strange noises. Where do I look from here ? Bad starter or engine ?Thanks

Starter and converter bolts tight. I used the converter bolts to turn it over , marked 1 bolt and turned it untill it came around 3 times. hope that made at least 1 revoltion of the engine.

You could pull a plug and see if there is any liquid in the cylinders. Does it have an electric fuel pump?

To much advance and bucking up against the timing? If something locks up it stays locked up.

  6. Pull the plugs and crank it.
One revolution by hand can be deceiving.

If it cranks without plugs and is not spewing **** out, look at your timing.

Ok, pulled the plugs, all good ,cranked over. Put plugs back in, did the same thing except it got past the lock up and started and ran fine, no weird noises. Turned it off ,restarted, no problem. Off and restarted did it again but started and ran fine. Battery reading 12 45. I didnt check or mess with the timing yet, I'll try that tomorrow. It does sound like that sound the battery makes with a bad connection , only 2 or 3 times louder.

dist cap has moisture or tracking-gets worse when damp.seen tis a few times, its like a hydraulic lock.

  11. Yup, too much initial advance and your battery voltage is a little low (should be 13+). Great combination for that problem to occur....

moisture, carbon, tracking, all related to timing.
also have seen this in hi comp engines.
Glad to hear you got it started.
