    Hey all,

Just stumbled upon the forum today and I was quite impressed with the resourcefullness and cool rides of all the members!

Let me introduce myself, I'm 34yrs old and have been a gearhead all my life. In June 2011 I just picked up my latest project. It's a fairly stock 1950 3100 chevy truck. The pictures included are pretty much as it was when I purchased (with exception of new bumper, spash guard, and grille that I've installed). I've have a couple of other 3100's but in much worse shape and I really don't have the time nor the space to do a ground-up restoration. My goal is to keep this one as nastolgic as possible.

Currently I'm in the process of lowering the truck with a 4" dropped axle from Sid's and putting disc's on the front. I know this question is asked hundreds of times on this forum, but I'd like to seek some guidance and input on what tire make and size other's are running on their '47-'54 1st series 3100 that also have a dropped axle. I'm looking for a set of nice WW's (preferrably radials) that I'll match on some smoothies. I'd like to fill the fenders better than the 6.00-16's that are on the truck while keeping at least the same diameter tire or above to prevent axle drag. Anyone had any experience running the Coker Cl***ics? http://store.cokertire.com/700r16-coker-cl***ic-3-1-2-whitewall.html

Anyway, the input is much appreciated.

  7. Welcome to the HAMB. Like those old AD trucks. Been meaning to build one for myself since I was in highschool. probably won't happen but I have good intentions. :D

drop a PM to raven he has a '54 that he runs a 4" dropped axle on. He can give you the real deal on tire size for it.

Welcome to the Hamb. I did the 4 inch axle from Sid, and 3 inch blocks in the rear. The tires fill the wheel wells pretty good. once lowered. You can check my project thread, and see how it all turns out. I did a little more budget then you. No disc brakes, and I did the Krylon on my blacks for whitewalls. I will be going with Cokers when I need new tires.

    All -

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum and input on tires. I will be posting updates of my progress.

53inSD, what size tires you running? I really like you Krylon WWs.

Sid (55 Mercury), I installed my axle about a month ago without any issue. I know it goes without saying, but you do great work!! In addition, I was impressed with how quickly you responded to my questions.

Looks nice... I wish I had sterted with such a nice truck... I bought a well preserved farm truck when I was 34 also. I'm freaking 43 now and am still looking to get it together. This is the year...... Porkn****** hooked me up with the 400 motor about 9 or 10 years ago and it finally comes out of the machine shop this week. With just a slight touch up. It seems to be on now......
