tried starting my truck this morning -no start-did sputter a couple of times but no fire -checked things over -found no fuel pressure.swaped out pump, replaced fuel filter- checked all lines -every thing seems good-cranked it over with line off at carb into gl*** jar -no fuel- will run if i dump gas into carb
1. Pump is ****ing air someplace, 2. Fuel line is plugged. 3. Pump is'nt pumping, push rod not in place. buflochp
i had this happen to me and i was told by so cal speed shop in az that my cam went flat. i think they meant that the lobe that the fuel pump rides on went flat. anyway i installed an electric fuel pump and it started right up. just a possibility
If you have cam or pushrod wear sometimes taking the gasket out is enough to get travel to pump fuel. The fuel pump stand also can have bent ears resuting in less travel.
Try pulling fuel from a can directly under the pump. If it pumps, the problem is in the fuel line, tank end; if it does not pump, it is in the pump or cam.
Most likely is either a worn cam, and / or worn, or wrong pushrod. The 59A uses a different length that the (49-53) 8BA. Are you running a stock, or aftermarket intake ? About missing pushrod.....You need that in place, or the oil pressure will be zero, due to the pushrod boss having an oil p***age going to it. Hope this helps........ 4TTRUK
old trick put small washer on pushrod gives it a little length, pushrod bushing shaped like hour gl***, oil goes around tube not through it
Disconnect fuel line at the pump and remove the gas cap from the tank. Gently blow low pressure air into the line at the pump end. Should clean out any blockage, but sends it back to the tank. How long since it was running last? RB
i cant imagine the cam is worn motor only has about 10k on it-waiting for a new fuel pump rod -all fuel lines are clear-gonna give the washer trick chopper dave suggested a try
What you could try is run the pump from a gallon can,you also can manualy pump the fuel pump by hand and see if it works. If you still have the tank behind seat its graity and could be drained could be pluged.
got my new fuel pump rod-took the old one out and it is almost a 1/4 of an inch shorter than the new one- installed new push rod and i am up and running!!
