    Ok,
I'm really itching for a 29 Model A pick up, nothing fancy.
Can I buy a 29 cowl, use sedan doors, and buy the rest (rust) in pieces? and make my own pick up cab? Maybe this has been posted before, and I apologize if it has..but I can't seem to find the info anywhere else.

PM Dyce here on the HAMB. His dad did that very thing and the truck turned out really really cool. He might have some pictures.

28-29 Pickup doors and post are like a 26-27 model t car.I have seen some 28-29 sedans turned into a pickup that looked good but you would have to make the rear of the cab.

  5. It could be done with a 30-31 pretty easy, as long as you match the cowl and doors (same size, slightly different hinge placement), but as noted with the 28-29 they use different doors from a sedan. You could make a neat cab by shortening a tudor or fordor though.

I looked at that, but it's local pick up...and a little too far away for me to go get, I'm in the heating business..and I'm a little swamped with work at the moment.
    Thanks for the info!

Yep it can be done. The one 6inarow is talking about used a sedan cowl doors and back. It looked good. He left the curve in the sedan back, and I think it looks better than the flat back on the 28-29, or even the 30-31 cabs. It had full fenders with coupe rears and a model t box. I put alot of miles on it!! Wish I had it back.... I'll dig up some pics and scan them soon.

Maybe you could talk one of the photoshop guy into putting one together for you.

  8. Use a 28-29 cowl, 26-27 sedan doors, the back and side panels are available new from Macs Auto Parts. Usually, back panels on original cabs are either beyond saving, or would require m***ive panel work. Cheaper in the long run to buy the new panel.

Post a couple pics if you have them Jeff. I only have one and that is at the back to the 50's the summer you and your dad both drove your 40's before my 41 was done. I'd post it but I am in the picture and cant chop myself out.

If you find it, buy it back. if not, tell me and I'll buy it

Wow, you guys are great! I did find the rear panels, and sides. I think I may go that direction...I'm a builder, so I'm really looking forward to getting this started.
I found a complete Model A frame with running gear for pretty cheap, that'll get me the frame, if it's decent. If not, I'll make one.

I asked a similar question a while ago and had some pictures posted by others showing it done. The thread was ***led "?, make a '29 pickup cab from sedan". I don't know how to attach it but stick the ***le in the search and it will come up.

  14. Pretty easy to make a truck cab out of a sedan, more to it than just moving the back of the sedan up to the doors but it can be done. Problem is that a closed cab A doesn't look like a cut down sedan os if you don't want it to look like a cut down sedan you need to not cut one down.

I think that you can get enough patch panels to build one from a cowl and doors but if you look you can no doubt beat the price by buying a truck cab. of course if it is just a dream to build one from scrstch than the truck cab option is out.

I would normally be in the camp that says don't even think about it, but with the repro back panels available, do it. Years ago when Elpollacko was running Rod Factory here in Phoenix and I was hanging out, a customer brought in such a conversion for some ch***is work. Proportions were right on, as the sedan /coupe cowl is a bit shorter above the windshield frame. It basically did a real mild chop right where it needed to be. I can't remember if they used two door sedan doors or coupe, and there is a difference of several inches in length, so it stretches it a bit with the Tudor stuff. That does mean shortening the front of the bed so that everything fits.Sorry, I just checked my old Model "A" Green book for some dimensions and found that Tudor and Coupe doors are the same length in '28 and '29 ('30 '31 had different lengths coupe to Tudor). I do believe p*** car doors and trucks are differnet lengths though, so I know it does stretch a bit. I don't have '28 '29 dimensions for p/u door length. The door reveals don't quite line up with the back panels, so there is some work there. The customers truck had a steel roof panel formed to the basic shape of the stock wood pickup item, and went a long way to stiffening up the body and i'm sure cancelling out all the Model "A" squeaks and rattles.
