standard 2 car garage... toolboxes on 1 wall... torches and compressor on the other... welder back by the washer and dryer, 1 small bench with vice and press on it and overhead cabinet above it... And having people come over and decorate the wall with graffiti is always cool also.. :D

I had the opportunity to build a new garage and honestly I wish I had done it a little differently. Originally I wanted a three door garage 36 feet wide x 24 deep but a metal roof and snow load and what happens when the snow slides dictated a two door garage 24 feet wide and 36 feet deep with the peak running front to back.

The space is fine but having cars side by side do not leave much room between vehicles or the wall. While you cannot ever build it big enough I wish I had made it 28 feet wide to give a little more room for benches etc. and still be able to get past the cars comfortably. Should have made the walls 12 feet high rather than 9 to accommodate a car lift in one corner, the cost to do this would have been minimal.

Should not complain but I wish I had done a little more homework before construction.

Tools and shelving down the side, surfboards across the back, still room for the A on one side, room to work on the floor of the other bay. Good think Model A's are small.

I only have a limited amount of tools, so they don't take up much room, but I can't get much done myself.

Tore down the old barn in 1998, wanted to build a 40x60 building but the city and 1 "asshole" across the street stopped it, end up with a 24x36 building, tight but you can work in it.

  8. All your work now has to be orchestrated like a play. Move five things to move the
chassis. Taking the body off the frame took two days of planning and 3 hours to accomplish (by myself). Big stuff like wheels with mounted tires and a roll of aluminum sit on my back porch (fenced yard). However I still can get to my grill.
Put all your tools on wheels ( I even have my workbench on steel casters).

A little crowded with 2 cars, but certainly do-able.

This is my little space. I just got back to old cars a few months ago, I've been working on bikes mainly so that's what it's set up for (Sorry in advance about all the bike pics in the post...they're a second passion). I can pull the car in for big stuff when needed or do a full build when the time is right. I finally got all of my wifes decorations out of my back shed and into my bus so I can start putting together a machine shop area.

    Have a groovy day,

Well it's a 2 1/2 car. In the winter my wife lays claim to half. Thing about a smaller place is it keeps you more organized and keeps the inventory down too.

  16. I seized control of my parents garage for my project, but I had to compromise on the space of the double car garage... They built a mudroom that kills a fair bit of the depth of the garage, and they still have stuff of their own to store, so I have the width of about 1 and a half garages, and the depth of about three quarters. Just long enough to fit my 1934 Ford truck in. My work bench and tools, along with the chest freezer, divide my side from theirs. Other than that, I carefully pack things in. I work with the space I'm given and often roll things out into the driveway to work, but it's doable.

Just big enough for the truck:

The tool chests are now on the other side of the garage:

  17. Mine's a 24x24 and full of one old project and one new one.My wife's HHR sits outside. But , as you can see in the second pic, a 22x30 addition is in the works. Pouring concrete on Saturday. Can anyone say Mancave?

Here is my 2 car 24x22. Plan on adding a lean-to storage area to keep my compressor and other things like ladders, kids bikes, etc in to free up a few more square feet in the garage. Definitely check out garage journal for some good ideas

My previous two car, 24 x24, heated, insulated, particle board walls, painted white with the cheapest 5 gallon of white paint I could find (white walls makes lighting much easier), found a school that was being torn down and bought a ton of 4ft flourecents cheap. Lighting is a big deal for these old eyes.

I have two 21x22 garages put together, couldn't do them all it once, kids. I did design it so I had a clean side and a "dirty" side (nice try). I have since built a 24x34 to go with it.

Thanks Goldtele. its a full time job keeping the wife from putting anything in there. thank god for the attic!

  29. well i cant figure out how to get a picture on this dang thing but anyways. 2 car. looking in everthing is is agiant the walls. tight but i make it work. selves on the left work bench on back. my FAB center on back altough that might get changed around. welder is back there. chop saw. oxy/acctlyn. parts washer and random stuff on right. oh and beer fridge on left as well.

it will be way better when i get a shed built. i have checked out my local codes. i can build it just big enough to hold a car with out calling it a garage. (score) and then after the inspection i am gona build a carport on the side. i know its wrong but it will be awsome.
