I watched this truck since it was listed because I want to build one similar. I crapped myself when I seen the end price. I think I could build this truck for around $7,000. Even if I figure my time in at $50/hour. I cant see it costing this much. Has this Rat Rod shit gone nuts or what? I guess I am just wondering what you think? I am thinking I should start building these and throwing them on e-pay. I understand some people may not be able to build their own car but $26,000 seems unreal. I am sure the seller is happy.

Alright let the ass kicking begin,
All I am saying is selling price to investment seems off to me.
I love this truck, Like many others.
I am not picking on this particular truck. It just happens to be the most recent sale I noticed.

Hey,the man asked a legitimate question. Forget it was on Ebay,it could have been anywhere. He wanted to know what made the truck be worth more than it appeared to be. He got an honest answer-tradition and history- a place to learn more about it and he was polite about what he was told. How you gonna learn if you don't ask questions? Get off his case and move on.

You can't overlook it being on eBay....eBay MADE it sell for that much. It's really not worth that....but the attention it's gotten on the internet alone bumped its popularity up quite a bit. Put it on eBay, people see it, tell their friends, someone with stupid money decides they want it more than anyone else and they get it.

  19. It is the nature of auctions. I used to go to antique auctions with my wife in England, and I was amazed at the bidding battles. It almost seems like it becomes personal between the bidders.

In any case, I am sure the value of the little '35 has not topped out. The new owner could probably put it back up for auction and turn a profit next week. If you look at the winning bidder's feedback, you will see that he recently paid $20K for another flathead powered (Tardel built) hot rod. I would guess that he is either a buying agent for someone like Jay Leno or he is investing.

  23. I see it kind of like buying a famous piece of art work. Yeah, some artest could do a painting just as good or maybe even better, and sell it much cheeper, but it wouldn't be the original. ( well I understand what I mean anyway) :D

Yes a HAMBer bought it and seems to have some exciting plans in the works that he he will be sharing with us in the near future.

I think I could build this truck for around $7,000

You could replace the motor for a little under that, I helped with the rebuild on the motor after it was bought from Rudy, you could not build this truck for 7 grand.

Because builders and buyers will never agree on prices. My Brother is a buyer not a builder. He says "If I dont have to lift a finger its worth a whole LOT more." If your job works you 80 hours a week and your making 200,000 a year who cares how much you'd pay to " Not lift a finger" Just my .01 cents

I dig the truck, but its pretty basic in terms of readily available parts. Whats special about a SBC and A TH400. But you can get away with that with a hooded rod right? I really don't see why its fetching so much except for the "Choppers Inc" name, and that it was Billy Lane's. Yeah the truck has been all over everything, but what hasn't Discovery exploited. The only thing about the truck I'd change, would be to get rid all the modern go fast stickers on the firewall, isn't there a Jegs sticker in there somewhere?

BTW Current $20,100 and reserve not met. I guess I need to get mine finished and sell it, won't I always regret that?

Absolutely TRUE! I've had the pleasure of seeing this truck up close in person down in Indy, and it is NOT some thrown-together "rat rod"...the workmanship and build quality are EXCELLENT throughout.

You could build a ratty, ground dragging truck of some sort for $7000...but I think very few, if any...could build a rod of this caliber for that much money.

(I have half that much into my Chevy, and I built it as cheaply as possible!)

Pictures will never do that truck justice...and armchair appraisals of it will always fall short.

Roger that!!! I work to support my habit, whoops I mean hobby, I'd say I do well. I know there are people who are less mechanically inclined and their only way into this hobby is to buy. I know tons of them, they ask me to work on their stuff all the time. Thats perfectly fine.
For me that misses the boat though. Cause for me its not the owning as much as its the build. My projects are my therapy. I require getting out to the shop in my free time and solving problems, and putting together various pieces together to complete a puzzle that looks like a piece of functional artwork when I'm done. Driving it then is the icying on the cake.

But to each his own. I'm happy that Ruralrods picked up Rudy's truck and has plans for it. That truck rocks.
