What part of America (as in TODAY, not the 50's) do you think the custom car & hot rod culture is thriving?
California seems to be over run with heck I dont know. the north mid west seems to be a hot bed of Car shows and neat stuff being built, so what do you think?

I can tell you where it's not...
Around here (southern Arkansas, northern Louisiana) there is no custom or hot rod scene.
We still have plenty of mini-trucks and the occasional hacked together muscle car, but nothing worth any attention.
There are quite a few old guys building cars around here, but they're the same old 30's and 40's models Fords in purple and red with crate 350/350 combos, and that gets boring fast.
I've seen some guys start some promising porjects, but they usually get forgotten about and abandonded. Pretty sad stuff.

Florida's the happening place, we rock.

  8. So-Cal, just like it has always been. The flip side of that is that you have to deal w/ the goof ***'d "scene" that accompanies it.

I like Seattle/Portland because it's about cars and friends rather than politics and pompadours.

It ain't in North-east Wisconsin, either. There are a few of us, but we stick out like a ***** in sweatpants. Kinda nice, I get a lot of attention with whatever I'm driving, and no one out here would ever get into a "rat rods ****/billet cars ****" ******* match because it's ultra-rare to even get two hot rods together at a show or meet at a gas station. If I wanted to start a club with only traditionally styled, pre'65 cars, the club would probably have to cover a 100 mile radius to get 50 guys together. My fellow Wisconsinites can vouch for that.

It's hard to say with out spending any real time in any other place.

Here in Metro Detroit there is at least one cruise night every day during the summer. A little of every type of car but still domintated by Muscle Cars, a few Hot Rods, a lot of late model pony cars and some Customs.

Friday nights there is cruise night (Sears) that has 400 cars there every time. Sunday's there is cruise night (Bakers) that gets 700-1000 cars through out the day, a lot being late models.

The scene around here is big, but lame. Although we have a ton of cars, a lot are dated styles of what was big at the time. The good thing is the're so many cars, that there is still a group of vehicles on any night that are done right and in timeless style that will always look right. I've also noticed that the gearheads around here who are ******** car people in are into a little bit of everything and not just one scene.

I'm betting every heavy populated metro city has about the same scene.

on another topic, here in sweden its here an there with the hotrod and custom scene, aren't really an huge "scene" here but "alot" of people here and there, and alot of people have different styles i mean streetrods etc etc but most people get along pretty fine i suppose, eventhough some of the restorers can be grumpy about us destroying potential restoration cars hoho, but who cares,.. sweden is a quite ok scene overall i suppose, not really that many "scenesters trendy mofo wannabes", anyhow i would like to donate the swedish winter to california though, or anyone else who might want it, heck its free take it, i don't want it , darn snow and darkness, hail satan and all that other**** aside, if thats whats that **** is about then noway, im going with buddah from now on

There seemed to be a lot going on in Arizona when I was out there. Cruise nights every week, old car junk yards, and plenty of rod shops.

  28. I live in Jonesboro in the North East corner of Arkansas. There is a lot of car hobby activity here and in the surrounding area. Memphis is a hot bed of rodding, traditional and non-traditional. Befor I moved here I was in Illinois just east of St Louis and it was the same there. As an "Old California Rodder" I can tell you there is more going on here right now than there was in SoCal in the day. It may not be your kind of rodding but it is rodding none the less.

  30. So Cal is definitely king of the old car daily driver crowd. Not a day goes by that I don't see at least a handful of pre 1970 rides.
