There is one in the Charlotte NC area that has been for sale for at least six months. It has a turbo 2.3 and a five speed. It is definately an unusual car. I would drive it.
Thanks for your comments on our club's homepage. MOTOMOBIL is the largest mail-order parts service for Taunus cars, but there are some more. Check our homepage "links" page for some suppliers (but German language knowledge is essential I'm afraid) . For Taunus weatherstriping also check: http://www.doepper-profile.de/
Some cool little cars in this thread that I started a few years ago. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290458&highlight=vauxhall
have not bought it yet, but did call the number. Guy told me, he purchased from elderly lady that could no longer drive. car is complete and motor still turns over.
I had a friend of mine in Oklahoma City go check out this car for me. He said there was rust and rot everywhere. I passed on it.
It probably came back with a G.I. during the post-war occupation of Germany. My Dad brought back German himself that eventually became my Ma (haha). My uncle in Germany had a, new at the time, 76 Taunus. Named after the Taunus Mountains near Frankfurt, they were all made in Germany. Pretty cool car that I would definately snatch up in a second if I could. I have this vision of it slammed to the ground. Throw in an early Ford small black with velocity stacks and no hood. But that's just me
No - not all of them are German, Ford Taunus were built as well in Genk (Belgium), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Pacheco (Argentina), Riga (Latvia) and South-Africa.
I drove a Ford Taunus when I was stationed in germany. It had a ford pinto engine and was available from 1600-2300 cc's. Somehow I think mine was a 67 but not sure. Long time ago..... It was surely a rear wheel drive with a 4 speed standard. Kind of looked like a late 60 Mercury Cougar. Mine was a POS but after I put the 2300 in it it moved better than any pinto I ever drove. Joe
^^ i dont think the 2300 was Pinto. In Europe we never had the bigger 2.3s that are found on US rangers, more so in the 70s, we only had the 1.3 to 2.0 liter versions. The 2.3 was probably the V6, but it wasnt available on 67 models, the '67 V6 option was 2.7 liter on the M27 P7 car, one of my all time favorit cars btw. Im pretty sure you had a MK1 ('70-'76), with its Knudsen nose and some fantasy it could resemble a early cougar.
Im 2 1/2 hours from that car, and have been thinking about picking it up myself. I think it could be pretty sweet!!
The 2.3 litre Ford Cologne V6 was introduced in June 1968 on the 20M and OSI Fords, the 2.6 on the 26M (P7b) even later in Sept. 1969.
We had a Taunus back in the late 50s. Black 4 dr, 4 cylinder, don't remember much else except it got good mileage and was fun to drive. It had a little beep beep horn. Had some old Chevrolet country horns laying up in the garage so I put on it. Also put a set of big air horns on it. Only place long enough to mount them was one under each front fender. Can't count the number of times I got the Okie good luck sign after honking at some one. That was back in the days when you had the cars name painted on the back fender, I called it "Horny Toad". But alas it gor caught between two big cars and wasn't worth repairing. Fred Jones Lincoln/Mercury in OKC was the dealer at that time.
