I've been going back and forth from frount mounts to side mounts on a sbc. Lets see what you all did to mount your small block chevs and ford engines
The frt. mounts were used when there was a mid-mount[at the bellhousing] side mounts came about as a way of doing away w/ these. If you use a frt mount w/a tailstock mount , it puts to much strain on the bellhousing[ the weak link]... this help?
Back about 1985 I put a SBC which had an auto trans in a '51 Mercury, the engine had the threaded holes in front so I welded up a front mount (I guess I could have bought one but hey...) and attached it to the original Merc front motor mount places ... rubber donuts etc. The back of the trans had a single down bolt on the trans mount, so I drilled a hole in the Merc cross member and there it was. I never though about a mid mount so never worried about that. I drove the car cross country (Mass to Arizona and back) pulling a travel trailer. Maybe it's true, ignorance is bliss.....?
33 ford, front mounts and rear mounts, it's a 57 283 engine so there is no mid engine mounting bosses. Hopefully won't break the bellhouse because there is no transmission mount. The transmission will be hangin loose

I'd get friendly with the search function.
