Want to change the wheels on my wagon to something a bit "older looking" hotrod. Liking these 2 wheels so far... just getting opinions. (I've also considered going as far as a set of smoothies with WWW's... but think I want to stay with the 'hotroddier' look of the Halibrand knockoffs)

    I'll be doing a 15x8 rear, and either 15x6 or 15x7 front.
Current Weld Racing wheels are 15x8 and 15x6.

  2. No WWW!

    Try Radir wheels and stripes.

    Kool Kar by the way!

A buddy of mine put American Torq Thrust Originals (TTO's) and blackwalls on his '59 and they looked great. I'll see if I can find a picture to post.

  6. On your car I'd say a 3/4" white wall.

maybe a set of 15x6 and 15x8 or 10 chrome cragers

if it was mine, I would think hard about a set of Chrome reverse wheels with big and little tires

On their own, I liked the first one better (with more gray/gunmetal). But looking at the vehicle, I think chrome is your friend here, so I'd actually vote for the second instead. I think anything matte or gunmetal would go unnoticed in those low wheel wells.

I've been trying to decide as well. In my opion the 59 & 60 should lean towards a cruiser wheel rather than a race wheel. The Cragars and the Americans suit the 62 and 63 chevys perfectly. I like the Salt flats and the Radir wheels on the earlier cars. Rocket Racing Wheels have a tri-rib as well. I think that is what I am going with. 7 inch all the way around with a 215 / 75 / 15.

I like the way the salt flat and the tri-rib cover most or all of the drum brakes. I think this suits the car better.

From the two you picked, I like the Salt Flats, w/o the knock off. Always though the faux knock off's were inappropriate. Real knock off wheels is a different story...

The fully polished salt flat is nice as well....

Seems to be some www dissenters, not sure if they think this is going out of style or what. I have my own opinion, that mag wheels are for race cars not big beautiful wagons. Smoothies and white walls with some dog dish and trim rings would be my choice. Cool 49 man. Just do it!~sololobo~

  18. Not a "dissenter", they just don't belong on a full body car built after 1958. IMHO

X2, between those two choices, and for the same reasons.

But, I'm also going to join up with the crowd calling for Radirs

Any of those three is a big improvement over the Welds

  20. Radirs, and I like WWW until 1961.

OTOH, I am going to run Chrome "Reverses" with WWW on my '59 Edsel.

No chance of me running the thinner whitewalls... totally not a fan of that look. Not a fan of the cragar 5 spoke either...too 70's looking to me.
The black smoothies with trimrings were on my radar as well. I'll look at the Radir wheels a bit more. They didn't really jump out at me much...

Here's another pic just to mess everyone up.. :)

These are what's on it right this minute.

I can get a heck of a deal on a set of these with Black centers.... $350 for all 4. American Racing smoothies.
I think I'de stay with blackwalls on these.... thoughts?

If you want the older performance look, go with American Torque thrusters, no question. Those smoothies with trim rings just aren't right for that kind of car. They belong on an open wheel roadster or anything 30's. They would give your car a downgraded look from its present state. And please....absolutely NO ww's!!! Chrome reverse/baby moons would be an option if you ran 8-9's back and 5-6 front with bigs/littles that fit in the fenders w/o jacking it up. But one things for sure, get rid of those wheels on it, they are sooooo wrong.
That's a damn nice looking wagon, you put whatever makes you happy on it and damn the rest...it's YOUR ride....

That's a GREAT lookin' wagon. With those very long flowing lines, the flames, and that (relatively) dark color of paint, you don't want the tires or wheels to become the focal point. NO on whitewalls of any kind. Wheels? I like the choices you were considering in your original post. Less is ALWAYS more, on mild customs.... :)

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.....The horror, where's the barf bag....:p:D

I agree with no white walls after 1960, and I also agree with Cragers being too 1970's...

I'm still leaning towards the Rocket Igniters (first wheel). If I went with the Cragars... I think I'de do the chrome ones.

I'll most likely go with similiar tire sizes to what was on the Weld Wheels... 195/65/15 front and 265/65/15 rear.
