Working out the details on this little roadster body I have been watching sine 2002.....I think its an "A", what do you guys think? He wants me to make an offer on it, so where should I start? Sorry for the poor photo owner wasnt home and I didnt have authorization at the time pic was taken, should have better pics soon.......
$200 for what I see, running down parts is time consuming and expensive, a ***le will run $500, I sold one last year minus the deck lid an no ***le for $1100 and made money and much nicer shape. Just MO.
.....and doors, windshield frames, cowls, firewalls..... but look at the bright side (long silent pause) ..................you don't have to spring for a spare bracket get the background and find out how insane the guy and or delusional to what he has. Average joes wouldn't tackle a build like this so he's gotta be real.. since it's half there 50 - 100 bucks seems fair
What's it worth???...very little, for half of a rusted out body. Probably be cheaper to buy a Brookville.
The owner should pay YOU to haul it away! OK, if you wanna be reasonable with him, offer him $150-$200. Is it worth a bit more? Probably. But at the end of the day, looks like you won't be salvaging much from that shell. Patch panels and labor to install them properly aint so cheap!
$100.00 tops and only then if you realy want it. Like some one else said Brookville might be cheaper. Your skills will deturm final cost. Good luck.
"Working out the details on this little roadster body I have been watching sine 2002.....I think its an "A", what do you guys think? He wants me to make an offer on it, so where should I start?" Rule # 1,; never make the first offer when trying to buy something. It's his item. Tell him to set a starting point. If you've been eyeing it for 10 years and he won't quote you a price, does this guy really want to sell it? Seperately, the quarters would sell for about $150-200 each. About $800 for Brookville. The above deck lid is desireable if in good shape, but also available new. The below deck lid panel is really cheap in repro form. I wouldn't go higher than $400, but ask if he has the doors, stanchions, etc. in the garage rafters. There's a lot of patch panel work needed and that will cost some bucks to have done if you're not capable of doing the work yourself.
offer a few hundred. nothing more. i picked up one i this exact shape. 200 for the rear like that one. 600 in patch p****s from howells and 200 for a cowl and 300 for 2 doors online thats alittle over a grand. thats nothing for a model A roadster body. brookville will be way more money but with no work. get your hands dirty and save money. that metal has ghost in it man...history...every dent and scratch tells a story that you cant buy from brookville its still a fake. its the real deal dude. the only hard part about that car is ***ling. its easy here in NC but dont know about where you live. even if you pay 500 for a ***le youll still have under 2k in the car body for A REAL ROADSTER MODEL A.
I have started with worse, feel him out ,ask him what he want's, than deal, don't insult him, if you can get it fora decent price, than worry about what's missing, it may be inside, who knows, it is not in all thatbad of a shape, hell I would like to have it! Decent price is what you think it's worth to you, not me or anyone else.
He's not emotionaly attached to it, and said he hauled it off of a dump years ago. He actually asked "why I wanted the piece of junk?" He did a Model A for his dad years ago, he has a spare firewall and a gas tank, but doesnt think he has much if anything else. I have always wanted a coupe, but like the roadsters too. And even though its rough its real....Not looking to put together a show car, but dont want a RR either. Just a nice traditional rod with some patina, and as someone already stated....character
i say 200 maybe 250 and don't get in a hurry to get the rest of the parts. as i found out alot of fair priced parts will show up with a little time. sometimes people will give you parts if they know you are looking for them. save the money for a nice engine and interior. it'll take a few years but it might make a nice car.
Look to the completed auctions. Find out how much a "complete" A roadster body in that shape would cost, then add up what it would cost to purchase the parts needed to start ***embling the one in the pic, Add 10% to that for the cost of shipping/fuel and then subtract that figure from the first and you've got the max amount someone should pay for it.
If you've "always wanted a coupe" then p*** on this. In all the time/money you're going spend on this a dozen coupe bodies will p*** you by.
figured I could always swap it for a coupe if someone found a coupe and always wanted a roadster....I dont think it will take up much room... plus I have that niffty spare tire mount! for my dodge, lol......
Looks like something i wouldn't even drop a dollar on. I do enjoy seeing folks bring stuff like this back to life though.
....well I will give you all an update tomorrow, going to look a little closer, and hopefully bring her back with me........
If you get it and wind up not wanting to build it let me know,, I have a line on the cowl from a roadster but no rear haha
It would probably be cheaper in the long run to spend more money up front even if he gave it to you. Charlie Stephens
well.......I looked at it yesterday, and as already mentioned it needs patch panels. Asked for a price, and he said, "I have a friend in the Model A club let me ask him". He wouldnt give a prce and I didnt want to offend him, by low balling. Im also working a deal on a OT fastback pony he has.
