Garrett is my oldest friend, meaning I have been friends with him since school and we are still good buds today. Garrett is a motor head- but not the "Traditional hot rod" type. He likes a little later cars, he has a nice 63 riviera but everything else is just a little too new for this board. He watches me with my old **** and has told me for a little while that he would like an early car, something like a Ford I have. He knows very little about them, so I said if you see something you like lemme know and I'll give you the run down.

Fast forward to last weekend. My other good friend, Logan, has had a nice ol 40 tudor that he now wants to sell. He lives about 40 miles from me so I said I'd come over and snap a few photos and help him sell it. Garrett wanted to go for the hell of it. Garrett and Logan know each other but Garrett has neveer been to Logans house. We get there and the 40 is out front and Garrett says "is that the car he's selling??" I could tell Garrett liked the car, and when Garrett asked if they were a popular model, and I replied the MOST popular 40's car, he was hooked.

So here it is, Garrett's cherry poppin 40. He is new to this, and I told him I'd help him get this bucket on the road. The engine is locked up, I do not know what his plans are for drivetrain but it will be early. The stance is already set and Logan did some rust repair, now it just needs a lot of clean up, gl***, interior and such :D

A great car to get into the early models. Forties Rule. A hot flatty or a SBC hooked to the stock driveline would be cool.

Thats exactly what he's thinking. Before he bit, I warned him some of this early Ford "junk" is pretty expensive. He asked what a flathead would cost to build, and when I said somewere in the 3k range for a full rebuild, he said "would an early SBC fit in there?" So it may go that route. It's up to him, I wanna help guide him, but I also want him to have fun and do what he wants to the car. He's a smart guy, and likes all my old car junk.

I'm personally a HUGE flathead guy, but I also understand why some people do not put them in their cars :D

Damn Chris, that '40 is the ***s!! I love it. Sits perfect. No better way for Garrett to "pop his cherry" than with a '40DeLuxe Tudor. Keep us posted. I know you will.

Dang, that would have been a perfect new home for my 8BA. It would be great with a flathead but would be damned nice with a little 4 barrel 283 hooked to the stock driveline to boogie around in.

You guys must have some decent fishing holes over there on the east side. I'm going to have to poach a bit and see if I can find some of those stashed treasures. Nice car, good luck to your friend.

*** kicken! Man I want my 38 standard tu-door sedan back. LOve these tu-door dandys. Looks like a smokin starter ride. Best of luck on its gettin on the road. Remember, when it is running and driving, it is done. Then you just improve it a little at a time. That has some natural appeal as it sits for sure, no faking that look!~sololobo~

A little flat clear coat, bring the flatty back to life (but understand the SBF/SBC upgrade) ... a period interior job & presto one heela of a rod.

    Nice score.

The Hot Rod Gods are smiling at you Chris for saving the '40 and for helping Garrett find a car for him to build.

A little 283 ... with enough power to move the sedan YET not overpower the original transmission and rear end would be the route I suggest.

Flathead, or early Cad, or early Olds for my own tastes. The Cad will be a bit cheaper to fit than Olds, as I think the Cad won't need a starter switchover.

I'm just starting a 303 Olds in a 40 using stock 40 trans. This weekends last two swaps for the year got me the Cad/Olds-to-Ford adapter plate for $10, and a new 10" Merc clutch disc for $5. I am thrifty :)

I don't think that Chris would allow his to do that. He's rather burn the car to the ground before he he put something other then a Flathead or a Y block in it. However, he's a meathead that doesn't know any better so we have to cut him slack. :D:D:D

@ 53 Olds - Maybe it just depends on what part of Oregon you're in - but - lots seriously cool stuff is still squirreled away within a few miles of where you are, and I do mean lots. Just keep an eye peeled, and your ears open, and some 'ready cash' available - really.

@ Chris - way to go my friend - get 'em converted, and help 'em build them. It's fun to watch friends and acquaintances as they get into doing the vintage thing. Good stuff right there, keep it up :)

Stop thinking like a restorer ya old fart and start thinking like a Hot Rodder!!! My favorite engine in the world, more then a HEMI.....more then a 265/283 Chevy engine is a Flathead Ford Engine bar none. They are the most beautiful engine and probably the best sounding engine ever. But damn it all to hell if an early Chevy V8 doesn't get them wheels turning (smoking actually) and look damn good under those hoods as well (Shhhh don't tell anyone but it's even very period correct:D). Take your Brand Loyal Muscle car early ford restoration meathead mentality back to...... Hahahah!!!! Just kidding boo!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I feel like burning my '35 for degrading it so bad......I mean burning the firestones off the wheels as I set your flathead world on fire son!!!! :D
