That's a really smart way to start, with a new frame. Saves so much work in the end. One thing I see that I had to mention is that you really need to clean the metal to shiny and contaminate free status before doing any welding. Some of the parts you welded on, like the Vega box mount, were not so clean in the pictures, and even where the rear perch went on had some surface rusting.

I hesitated to mention anything, but these threads are a textbook for guys just learning and the only way they learn is to see it done correctly. By the same token, if they see something done wrong they will assume that is ok too. Sorry to say anything, and hope you understand. :)

Not alot of progress but had me an assembly line going the other day. We got the frame done and i wanted to get some paint on it. So being a cheap tite wad, i got some rustolum black. I had the frame fliped over and brushed where the roller wouldnt get. Then the wife rolled it on (4coats) with a mini roller. Not bad just had to wait for it to tack up goot between coats.

Not a problem mr don about commenting on the surface rust. The camera showed up alot more than the nacked eye:D.
So here is my friend (brad) doing some tigging on the rear end.

What he does is brings his gear up and he will weld it in my garage. Later this winter he is going to build a garage at his house. Im thinking of pitching in and just storeing my junk there:rolleyes:.

Now the whole time they were working i was the camera guy and held down the chairs. Man this is a tough build.

Yes and he wont take any money. But i will drop everything if he needs anything

Move back, we dont have anybody to hang out with:D

I agree, from looking at pics it does look bad. He is a certified welder and i trust him. If he needed to do anything it was done. You are correct by pointing this out. If rust is below the weld then it is a week point and can cause major if not life threating failure. Good thing hes out of the will.

Ok here is where im going to get my flameing. I went to a local salvage yard and was gave a top with sun roof. I am going to cut it out and place it in the roof to see out. I had a model a sedan and was stopping 4 car lengths from red lights. I might make a snap cover to cover the top and take it off when driveing.

Its been awhile since ive updated. Havent gotten much done but my friends did. I was staring at the roof and was wondering about the top. I called a freind (ricky bobbie rod shop) and he said bring it over. I loaded it up and the next day he calls and said come back and get its done.

First pic is of roof skin in place.

the next pic is he chopped the windshield frame and it is just laying on the cowl. He also punched some holes. I didnt want big massive holes so this is what i got. If you look close you will see my seats sitting in the car. Somebody some time ago cut some drums down for a bomber look.

I also got me a dash out of a metrapolitan frazer. Complete and was donated by medic customs. That will have to wait for a rainy day lol. I will roll it out tomorrow and get some better pics of roof.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I had to do something, this thing has a 7inch chop. Way too much, if i had some pieces i would try to unchop it by 3-4 inches. I am think about putting the frame in so i would have a rain gutter. Then making a metal panel that would just pop out with quick release pins, and then covering the top. I could roll the material down into the sunroof frame so when the sunroof is in it would be tight. You would see a seam but not bad.

I got some 31 coupe roof pieces that could be used to unchop your coupe, if thats really what you want to do, almost free plus you pay shipping. PM me if interested.

Ok its been awhile so it will take a minute and some post to catch up. First and most important, When you mess around with buggis springs dont take anything lightly. I broke in half a c clamp trying to spread the spring. I didnt get hurt but it could have been bad news if i had my hand around it when it let loose. Ok how i did it, I took all the spring apart, then took 2 c clamps and a 2x4. I placed the 2,4 on bottom and clamped both ends. I little at a time it was able to spread it to where i could get the spring bolted up. Then i got a bolt and nut that would go through the spring and put the spring together. Now when i started clamping i did a little on each side, then tightened the nut. Didthis until i could get the spring colapsed and took the long bolt out and replaced it back with the one that came on the spring. Here is a picture with the spring together and no weight on it.

Ok now what i have done is took it to metal and just sprayed some paint onto it to find all the dings and dents. I dont thing my metal skills will allow me to dollie it all out so ill make that decision when it comes. :D

Now by measuring the body and frame i was able to see it wasnt goin to sit down on the frame without a knotch for kickup. Measured 20 times and cut once.

    the knotch.

Now im the one who dont like to ask for help when i can do it myself. So i need to get the body on the frame. What i did was roll the cart behind the frame. Put skotches in the front so it would not roll. Then the front two mounts on frame. I found two bolts, cut the heads off and used them as studs. I picked it the front of the body and drug it on the rear crossmember. I had to stop from time to time to push my hemroid back in:eek:, jk and then it happened.

It was on the frame. I couldnt believe I did it.......:D:D:D:D:D:D
