Hi Guys, My name is Tom and I live in Southern California. I stumbled onto this form while searching for information on how to restore a 1957 Chevy 3100 truck. I recently purchasd the truck and feel a little lost on how to start my restore. Prior to the truck I have had mid 60's muscle cars and could work on the Mustang and Falcons in my sleep. This certainly is different for me. Anyway, the truck has a 235 that looked neglected but I managed to get it running after an oil change, plugs, new starter and resolving alot of wiring issues I got her fired up. I got some "new" parts that the previous owner never installed, included in the purchase. 1. 3 inch drop mono springs for all corners 2. New generator/powersteering combination 3. A-833 New Process aluminum case four speed with overdrive (Needs to be rebuilt) 4. Misc parts, hood springs weather stripping, rubber bumper, window regulator... I thought I would start my restore with the suspension. I am trying to figure out if the mono springs are a good idea or if it's better to go with a drop axle. In the rear I wanted to learn what options are are available. If a rear axle flip makes since of if I should just install the rear mono springs. I just found out that if I lower the truck 3 inches in the front then it needs to be lowered an additional 2 inches in the rear for a total of 5 inches to keep it level. So far the 6 banger is starting to grow on my and I am interested in learning how to hop it up the old school. Well the weekend is finally here so I can get some work done on the truck. I will take some pictures this weekend and share them you.
