This has been my first time that I have ever been out of the state of Ohio. I couldn't believe the beautiful scenery of West Virginia and Virginia. It totally blew me away...We were going down to Honaker, VA to visit a home in the mountains. It was mouth dropping scenery! BEAUTIFUL!!!! The home we went to see was a 1850's home built on the mountain side on a dead end road, in which this house was the last house on the little road. It was owned by a family who personally knew General Lee of Confederate Army, and he used to come and stay at this house. I think I found where I want to live....
Wild wonderful West By God Virginia - Don't tell too many people, it may get popular and loose it's charm
and people look at me like i'm nuts when i tell them i'm moving back to virginia. i grew up in west virginia and i've lived in virginia too, there is nowhere more scenic or rich with interesting history in the country.
This is one big, beautiful country. As a teacher, I am amazed at how many people have never traveled this great land and, sadly, never will. I think Samuel Clemens remarked that travel was the antidote to predjudice and bigotry (paraphrased).
Honaker area is very pretty, my sister lives just up the road in Bluefield, and the rest of the family lives near Beckley wv. You really just saw the tip of the iceberg though. all of southern WV and western VA is very scenic. If you want to really be impressed get on the blueridge parkway and go down thru western NC . ENJOY
Haha I'm planning on moving to AZ when I'm done with college here in VA, are you telling me it's a bad idea?
I moved back to WI two years ago after living in West Virginia for (5) years. Wonderful is right. Nothing in the country like the "Hills of West Virgina" fer sure !!!! The history there is unbelievable also.... Not only is the scenery awesome, but so are the people. I have never lived with more caring, polite, and honest patriotic Americans. I miss them a lot, as well as the scenery. Glad you got to see some of it. Good for you. Cheers.......
there isnt much better then mountains, bluegr*** and moonshine, well except old cars, thier better but thats about it, and when you put the 4 together you got your own little peice of heaven
I know that road, I used to drive it quite a lot. I've been away for 10 years now. I miss it a lot, but I don't miss the winters or the humidity. I love the CA desert, but WV will always be my home. FWIW, WV has some great, challanging driving. I miss runnin' the back roads more than anything.
A few years ago, we traveled from Wisconsin to Raleigh/Durham via Louisville to Charleston and up through the mountains and back down to Fancy Gap, Virginia. There was a point in time, and I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the town, but when we broke through the fog at the peak of the mountains in West Virginia, I literally thought I was on the very top of the World! I have never seen anything more beautiful in my life......the ride down to Virginia on the Southern descent was simply amazing! I've never seen so much sky and Earth at the same time ever.......
You do need to get out MORE ... The Blue Ridge Parkway is considered my many to be the most scenic road east of the Mississippi. The Blue Ridge Parkway today is in many ways what it has been for all its years a ribbon of highway along the high Appalachian ridges of the Southeast, and a gateway to the discovery of ways of life that thrives along its pristine miles. The Blue Ridge Parkway winds its way for 469 miles of beautiful ridgeline, from Waynesboro, Va. to Cherokee, N.C. The two-lane, 45-mph, limited access roadway generally rides over or ducks under the big state and national highways, with only occasional crossings of state or U.S. highways.
I live in ny now but grew up in wv, I just got back from seeing the family while home on R&R leave. It's amazing how bad you want to leave a place when your growing up and then how bad you want to go back once your gone
Your picture in #1 looks like I-77 in West Virginia hauled my 57 Buick up that road from Colfax North Carolina on the way down good cookies and coffee at the rest stop near Big Walker Mountain Tunnel in Virginia
I'm sure Virginia is beautiful, but the "going to the sun" road in Glacier National Forest will take "road trip" to a whole new level. It's amazing
Yep West by god Virginia is pretty nice. But as someone said we have a beautiful country with lots of great scenery We don't do too bad for our selves here in Washington State either. I have to suffer through with this view from my back yard. I had a hard time seeing it when the corn was tall for a few months though.
aint our country beautiful. i live in alabama so i see alot of small mountains and hills and all the woods. i love it here but when you head up to w,v.man thats some beautiful country.can make a old hard*** like me almost cry.almost lol
most people love az, just not me. the winters are nice, theres a ton of stuff to do both car related and otherwise but i'll take nice green scenery and nicer people any day.
Yes, The picture was taken on I-77 in West Virginia. Loved the hills we had to travel up and down on. Nothing like it is here in Central Ohio. Can't wait to visit Virginia again!
I was in Italy for two & half weeks Sept.22-Oct.8 traveling from Milan to Venice to Florence then on to Pisa,Sienna,Orvieto,***isi,Capri & Amalfi Coast & finally Rome...you can really expand your mind immersing yourself in foreign landscapes & cultures for a few days...but when it's all said & done we can be mighty proud of our own country & culture..I did some driving through the Blue Ridge/Shennandoah & western Pennsyvania recently & the fall foliage is peaking..glorious landscapes! And even more..I had the pleasure in the summer of 2006 of driving the "million dollar highway" in Colorado to go camping at Mesa Verde & Arches Natural Park in Utah..the fantastic vistas of the American West can stand up along with those of Tuscany & the Amalfi Coast anyday of the week ..and I saw a lot of European & Asian tourists out there who apparently think the same thing.
