I'm looking to bag my '62 Ranchero and need some info. I'm looking for a reputable shop or fellow HAMBer in SOCAL, or just a legitimate website. Anyone know of any of these where i can get a legit air ride kit? Please let me know. Thanks a ton!
i would pick up some mini trucking mags from the book store and even visit some mini truck websites that scene pretty much put airbags on the map. Those mags are littered with legitimate companies that sell parts and do it yourself to know its done right and a sense of accomplishment. From what I have seen you have to piece together a kit unless its a super popular car that gets bagged like the s10 and be prepared to get some strong opinions from others
im putting just a very basic up/down 1 way valved set-up in the back of ours as i like how low it sits but cant put any weight in the back without the tires hitting the inner guards, just use a basic bag over diff and mount some brackets off the side of your inner of ch***is (make sure you gusset them) and have enough support so they dont bend up with lifting weight of truck. im making my brackets but im sure you guys have plenty of shops over there that sell air-ride parts.
look in the "Falcons done right" thread, theres a few bagged ones and you can pm the guy s that own them. If you can weld/fabricate just buy a management kit and 4 bags and make your own brackets. Its not easy on those unibodies but it can be done and will be *****in. Also, consider hydraulics, it can probably be easier to install a simple cylinder/ac***ulator one pump set up on you existing suspension components w/ very little modifications rather than all the work you need just for bag clearence.
Actually, check out the first couple of pages of "doing Facons right" here on the H.A.M.B. The "Falcons done right" is more geared to the finished product. I think "falconizer" started that thread and the first page or two is his station wagon project with bags. I have three Falcons, and bags aren't nessesarily my thing, (I just make EVERYTHING low and drive...) but if I were to consider bagging a Falcon I would go with a Bag/shock unit in the front. Shockwave is the first brand name that comes to mind. I back I would leave the spring packs intact, but dearch them lots and do a "helper bag" as suggested above. I am considering doing just that on the back of my Ranchero, because I intend to use it as a delivery truck for my louvering business.
thank you very much. my ranchero sits low right now, but i do love me a slammed car. so basically i just want to sit real low when parked, for show.
There is a company that makes them for corrisponding falcon years. Will most likely fit over, but if not, look to mini trucks. I am not always a fan of them but they are inventive.
