So I have a set of 32 rails and a model a front crossmember...I'm guessing that there's no issue with mixing the two if these are the two things I have on hand. Any issues that I'm overlooking?? I will be running my 28 with a deuce shell if that adds anything. Also the rails will be pinched to fit the 28. thanks Boxcar
Great thread by Ed Lloyd on placing the model A front crossmember into a 32 frame. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=610718
Don't mount it too high. If it is too high, the hood won't fit. If it is low, it can be shimmed. Aim the spring mounting surface to the radius rod mounting points to avoid spring bind. Leave a place to mount the radiator feet.
thanks all for the info and links. thanks to Ed Lloyd for his willingness to share with the m***es. Now to find a rear crossmember and possibly a k member. Anyone know of a good k member plan Boxcar
If you do a search you will find that the A front crossmember is not just a bolt-in when used in a '32 frame. I got one from shadow rods in Mich. built to go into the '32 frame and is a real nice piece.
fyi, this is what i came up with - it`s an original `32 cross member in conjunction with a repop model A cross member. the reason i did it this way, first is to get the front of the car down a little and second is to be able to use original `32 motor mounts. i just don`t like the looks of a flathead in a `32 frame with side mounts. i also modified the rear edge of the cross member so i could use double sheave ball bearing truck pumps. hope these images post!
Thanks all for the info...some info is over my head but I'm gaining more knowledge every day. To avoid having my brain explode...frame and ch***is set up is my inital focus. I've got a few deals that I'm working at the moment. 1. one deal is a set of stamped 32 rails....and I fill in the rest 2. the next is an already pinched 32 frame (I have an A) 3. an aftermarket 32 frame that will need pinching So I'm trying to build some thought out contigency plans to fit one of the three situations above. Thanks for all the info
