Two Consew sewing machines in about equal condition up for auction. Would I be getting a better price bidding on the second one or the first one. All other things being equal. thanks, ****

Do some research and find out what the going price for that model is and set your price and stick to it. I don't usually like to bid too early in the bidding and wait until a few fall out before bidding.

yah, it's definitely tricky. i've seen exact same items go quite a few times and there is never a set rule. several things can happen.

first, the auction company might put both up at the same time and the high bidder gets choice of the 2 machines. the winner might end up taking 1 or both. if it's just one, they could start right in auctioning the 2nd one off. i've seen them go for more, less and same.

second, the auction company spreads the 2 items out over the course of the sale. the first one goes for $500 (for example) and there were just 3 bidders that seemed to be serious. when the 2nd item comes up, there are a couple of new bidders thrown in and the price ends at $900.

or, when the 2nd one comes up, the other 2 serious bidders have bought a lot of other stuff and are now not interested in it and the 2nd item goes for much less.

    it's a ****shoot.

    i know that doesn't help.

Online or in person auction?. At live auctions I have seen two people go at it tooth and nail and then the loser from the first bid cleaned up on the second piece because he broke the first bidder. Also at live auctions if there are same items in a row the auctioneer somtimes offers the first bidder first rights to the remaining units for the same price. If there are only the two of you bidding for two items--try and make a deal with them-- auction houses hate that.

or you might catch people sleeping and steal the first one. Good Luck!

Ask if the winning bidder gets his choice of machines and buy the first one

  7. You will get the best price on the one that no one is bidding on. Never ever let yourself be drawn into a bidding war.

Pay close attention to the bids on the 1st one. If its going for what its worth to you jump in.If the bids are too high wait for the 2nd,you might get lucky. If you have never been to an auction,be careful. All auctions have their own planted bidders to run up the price.

Same as Ebay, decide on your price,
allowing for taxes and buyers premium.

If someone else wants it more than you....

It is also illegal -- but as they say, it's only illegal if you get caught.
