Just curious if anyone has done this? What problems are there? Adapters, etc, etc. I just can't decide on a Engine/****** Combo, The motors I'd like to go after are torquers and Id like to cruise about 1800 rpms on the highway, but I can't seem to get what I'm after without sacraficing in lower gears....... The T56 looks like the best ratios but I'm not sure about getting it to fit?
There is a bell housing that mates a t56 to the sbf pattern engines. It cost's about 450 bucks and is a phone call away. It's a commonish mustang swap for later model cars. The t56 is pretty heavy and big. There are several different available gear ratio sets for t5's available along with the rebuild kit that will cost you about what the bell for a t56 will.
stock od in a ford world cl*** t5 is .63... I wouldn't go much taller than that... you will end up having to down shift a lot.
Depends on the rear gears. I run a 6.00:1 rear gear with a T56 (0.50:1 top gear). Launches like hell, still cruises fine on the highway.
Thats what i am after .63, with a 3.55 rear puts right at 1900 rpms doing 70mph......which is where the engines Im looking at are putting out their peak Torque! And 1st at 2.95 should give enough off the line with 3:55 rears. However I am finding that all the ford T5's Im looking at have the .68-3.35 gears. Any ideas on how to identify one with the .63 ratios???
Thanks, Gimpy! Everything I was finding was showing a .63 5th to be in aftermarket applications only. So thanks again!
Anyone else have any info on this??? Didn't ford use a T56 behind some mustangs? What years were they? Could I just find one of those and mate it up to the 300 since they use the same SBF pattern? Also what about the speedometer, are they allelectric on the T56? Were any of them cable driven? I know I can run a T5 or a M50D but.... I really want the six speed just to say it.....and I think with the right rearend in a lightweight truck (that is basically a car) it will be pretty sweet.
The T-56 was only used on the 2000 Cobra R and the 2003-2004 Cobra, all of which came with a mod motor, which uses a different bellhousing. So yes you could find the transmission out of one, but you'd still have to get the new bellhousing.
