Hello, Does anyone know where to find 50 merc. distributor rebuilt or does anyone have one? I bought one of those electronic ones can't make it fit.If not where the best place to get the parts? I would need cap, rotor, pints, and condenser. thanks spike
There are two styles of late flathead distributors, alloy and cast iron. They also require different front covers. What kind of distributor does your Merc have, and what kind of "electronic" distributor did you buy? A picture of the two might be very helpfull. Here are the two types:
It looks like the other one. I bought it of e-bay and no way it will fit the housing that is on their now. sp1ke
All of the aftermarket and Chevy conversion '49-'53 F/M flathead distributors that I have seen, or have, are built like the cast iron one in the left picture, but with the extended shaft, like the alloy one on the right has. This allows the use of the iron front cover by cutting the shaft shorter (if needed), or the alloy cover with no modifications. A picture and/or some measurements might help figure out why your new distributor dosen't fit.
