1954 Pontiac, 1954 Chevy ... same gas tank?

Hey everyone. My 54 Pontiac gas tank is leaking at the seam. Can anyone tell me if the Pontiac shares its fuel tank with the Chevy of the same year? I know the body itself is the same, but the Pontiac has a longer trunk and longer quarters. If a new '54 Chevy fuel tank will fit in there I'll just buy one of those and be done. If not, then I'm probably going with an aluminum fuel cell. Thanks!

 

A 17 gal RCI is almost the right size. I gave up the spare tire well for the extra capacity and made my own straps from 16 gauge steel strips. the filler was almost the right spot too.

 

But I really like my spare tire well. =[

Maybe I can just clean & patch this tank myself.

I'd google some place that makes tanks for a 54 Chevy and see if they also carry one for a 54 Pontiac.

 

should be the same, the quarters are the same as chevy. its the wheel well thats moved back on the pontiac that makes them look longer.
