Looking for a good place to get a replacement gas tank on the cheap for a '51 Chevy Fleetline sedan. I've looked at Chev's of the 40's but didn't know if there were any other suppliers like that out there.....

Car is running the original straight six and is a beater/project...

2 come to mind the 65ish mustang or the old VW beetle (has a nice flange all around to flush mount )
Both about the same size and both are cheap.

I vote Mustang too. 125$ w/ sendeing unit.
    1-Remove old tank
2-Cut a hole the size of the tank (slightly smaller actually)
?-not mandatory but i framed the hole.
3-put the tank in and screw it to the trunk floor.

You will gain a lot of ground clearance and you can now shave the gas door and fill up openion the trunk.

Hit your local pick n pull with your tape measure. You'll find one that should work.

I have a 51 hardtop and sonebody put a fuel cell smack dab in the middle of the tank.....pretty dumb if you ask me. I was thinking of going with a mustang two tank or like mentioned an old vw beetle tank. Where can I get that mustang two tank with the sending unit for $125?

The pick n pull here punches a hole into the bottom of each gas tank to drain it, make sure you are willing to repair the tank you purchase.

  13. Went thru this dilema with my 50 chevy.

Option A: Mustang tank. Kentucky Mustang had the best price for a non overseas made tank. Made in Canada. The only other rhing though, you cant run your stock fuel guage so you got to pony up for a copatible fuel guage.

Option B: A stck Chevy tank. The Car and truck shop in california had the best price I could find.

    Hope this helps. Todd
