I left mine stock on my 51 Merc, always liked em and the rear of a 51 is totally unique from 49 and 50!
if jesses are altered in some way i must be missing something..they look custom because there shinny and new!
As always, thanks Bad Bob for the pics! I guess I like the idea of keeping those rear fenders looking like a 51 merc; not a packard or even a more "narrowed" 54 merc quarter panel. Subtle, but just my personal taste. They all look good, but I gotta live with em. I did like FlamedAbone's desotos. Maybe I like a little chrome on the edges. I know; not totally traditional where you shave and french everthing...
I haven't found any good angled pics of the tail lights. The bezel might be thinned out like I told ya earlier but its hard to tell...
Oh wait, I think I just figured it out.... Umm yep. He put the left one on the right side and the right one on the left side. It takes a keen eye to notice the subtleties. Anybody else see that? I had this picture saved, and it's named "jesse james merc". Not quite sure where it came from, though it was probably here. The other picture is from the Austin Speed Shop site. I just picked up a nice set of 51 taillight lenses, and I feel like it's Christmas morning.
I was just kidding about switching right and left taillights. I actually don't think anything was done to them after looking at a bunch of pictures. Maybe the rear bumper is tighter to the body?
