I have asked several people what size tires their running on thier 36 ford taildragger but no one want's to giv up the info. I am looking to run 16" radials on my 36.
I think firestone 6.70s would look great. I know you asked for radials.. but... to me they take so much away from the car. i would reconsider getting bias plies, especially on a car from the 30s, the ride isnt THAT bad and they look so much better IMO Also, unless youre gonna run full wheel covers/skirts, for a traditional look some full steelies would suit it much better than the rallies. Im not trying to pick it apart, just giving my 2 cents. Firestones with a big thick whitewall and a pie crust would look fantastic. Your car is beautiful btw, its one of my dream cars
I am going with fender skirts. It will be a tail dragger when im done. The front has a heidts IFS (came that way) so I heard that bias tires work better on beam front ends and radials on IFS. I like the look of bias plies best but am going with radials. Thanks for the complement! I just got the car.
Seriously? I don't want to sidetrack your thread but almost 100% of U.S. vehicles were factory equipped with bias ply tires until the early 70's I believe, yet most all of those cars had IFS since the very late 40's/early 50's. PS-Not trying to ridicule your choice of radials, but attempting to clear up a myth.
Yeah my pontiac has IFS and it rides fine with my bias plies.... Im glad this ones turning into a taildragger.. do your research and it can be a real smooth 40s styled mild custom. Cant wait to see the change.
Radials!? If you want you car to look very 80's or not a tradition custom. Radials look like **** on customs. The Firestone 600x16 with 3 1/4" whites or 650x16 with 4" whites. Its your car do what you want. you ask for info and that my opinion.
