Rear axle width Ford Model A versus '37 Ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 57chevywagonman, Oct 5, 2011.

  1. I am starting to work on my 1930 Ford 2 Dr Sedan. I am planing to use either 17" or 16" Ford wire wheels on it (I have a set of each). I have a 1937 Ford front axle and bones to use up front. Out back I am going to use a 9" from an '86 Ford pickup truck. This axle is allot wider than I need. I would like to know what the outside of hub to outside of hub length is on both the 30 and 37 rear axle so I can appropriately narrow my old 9".

    Thanks!

    Mike

Best solution is the set the Model A on jack stands and then put the tires/rims you want to use in the position you want them and then measure the distance ( wheel mounting flange to wheel mounting flange ) . Then you would know for sure ...
    BUT ...

Most Model A guys running fenders want a rear end that is 56 inches wide ( WMS to WMS ).
A 5 lug Maverick rear end is that exact width ... :D
