I just got this picture from my Dads friend. It was taken in 1958 in Vancouver BC. At the time my Dad and his friend Wayne belonged to BCCCA British Coulumbia Custom Car ***ociation. Wayne surprized me with his original Jacket which is in really good shape but missing the B on the back so it says CCCA. He also gave me an old 1926 floor jack called a Walker Lift a car. I also got a Service bulletin book from cars starting in 1932-1937 wih the hourly rates and time for work that was done on cars. Check out the short side dumps. This car was only 3 years old and look at it!! LOL!! Damned punk 20 year olds!!! Uploaded with ImageShack.us My Dads Friend Wayne Waynborn. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Cool shots, thanks for sharing. Judging by the road spray and garb, it looks like a typical North American gray, wet day. But **** weather is not stopping these guys, both in their prime, looking for crime and living it !. Its not all sunshine and SoCal, dontcha know. Wishing that the background was an early service station scene but, I'm glad that we got to witness a genuine moment in a couple of troublemakers lives. Much respect. All the best, Dale K Cleveland Oh
They sure had the ride height dialed in! btw, you might be able to find the missing B thru a trophy or logo/promotions shop as the lettering for jackets really hasn't changed much. .
Yeah March in Vancouver is cold and wet and road grime is everywhere. No hubcaps, wide whites, side dumps right behind the front tires. BAD***!!!! LOL!! And they drove em every day rain or shine!!
That would be cool as I have my Dads patches under gl*** and he lost a "C". I don't want to cannibalize either one as they both deserve to be preserved .
This was just sent to me from Wayne in Vegas. My Dad and him are still friends after all these years . My Dad moved from Seattle and now lives in Vegas and Wayne lives in Vegas and Vancouver BC. They just had a garage sale and have a set of Snow tires if anyone needs them in Vegas!! LOL!! Arlington Drag strip has been closed since I believe 1976 and I actually go to the Arlington Drag strip reunion. Funny how we cross paths years later. I actually sent this link to Wayne, he was the owner of this Crown Vic. Hey Wayne. when you read this I hope you get a kick out of it. Oh and heres the link to the pictures I took at Arlington. It looks a little older but dont we all!! LOL http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=625386 Quoted from Wayne. Dirty, yes.. Trashed NO.. Your Dad and I just came back from the drags in Arlington Wa. As you can tell the event was rained out, hence the dirty car.. What do you mean 20 year old PUNKS. Hell, we were STUDS, and we had to fight the gals off.. HAHA.. Thanks for the pics. I had them blown up a few years ago, and sent a copy to your Dad, but neither one of us can find them.. "OLD AGE".. Helped your Dad with his yard sale. Not to busy. I think it's the economy..He got P/O and sent everything to charity.. He still has his 2 sets of studded snow tires. Nobody seems to want them. I wonder why.. We have many good laughs over them.. I had a lady at the sale ask me why there was nails in the tires.. To funny..
BCCCA or British Columbia Custom Car ***ociation still exists. The have been an active club since about 1951. Google the Mission Raceways or BCCCA as they own the drag strip in Mission. Maybe they can help you out with the lettering as they still have club jackets. Pat.
I knew those guys from school, they were the only ones in grade 7 to drive a car. That is my old public school the picture taken from the student parking lot!!! Just kidding, neat shots of the old days. What ever happened to the car? Good luck in your search for the letter, you will find it.
Dang, those young hoodlums and their loud cars! Never gonna amount to nuthin! There's hope for us guys too
Not THAT is where it was at when I was in high school. What a great picture that is, and way cool Dad too.. Thanks for bringing back the memories! Cheers.......
Man do I have a couple really amazingly cool pictures that a friend just sent . I will post them when I get back from work today!!!
The BCCCA is still big but their letters are flat as a pancake now so I can't get the B and C from that club anymore. Also these pictures are of my friends Dads membership cards. I thought these were sooooooo cool as both my Dad, my Step Dad and pretty much the people I knew growing up belonged to these clubs. Here's a picture of a Friends Dad back in 1937. Two days before opening up the Pattulo Bridge spanning the Fazer River. Linking Surrey BC and New Westminster BC. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
So my Step Dad also belonged to BCCCA car club in the 50s and so my life, little did I know at the time was so influenced by these people that now I think I am way more addicted than they ever were. LOL!!! Some of the cool things I got from my Dad. . These are from his Jacket. Then from my Dads friend Wayne who oned the car posted. This is Waynes 1950s Jacket. Now my Step Dad is joining in on the p*** me downs which is really cool!!!!!! This is another car club that was formed in the 1950s and then restarted a few years back. My Step Dad just gave this to me. and now some really cool sthings that he gave me that his Dad made him. This is a home made carburetor that is made from house hold things. The the venturi is from a sink drain, the fuel bowl is a cheeze whiz bottle from the 50s and the main jet is a fine threaded slotted screw that has been drilled. Then my Step Dads Dad got into minature steam engines. He made them from scratch. He was very mechanical and made my Step Dad presents like this. It is a Boat built in the late 40s that was hand carved from cedar and has reworked grandfather clock windings mated to a hand made propeller and shaft. But then the next year he made my Step Dad this!!! Remember I talked about my Step Dads Dad (Herb) getting into minature steam engines? Well? My Step Dad is Bob OConnor hence "The Bobby O". How cool is that. Herb (Bobs Dad) was always working on cars and getting the most power out of everything and anything.!!! On the bow of the Boat there is a small tube that is formed like a hexagon. This is actually a lipstick tube that opens the boiler for adding the water . Heres a model I did when I was 12. 1974 that I still have. I was influenced by some of the coolest people!!! This is a car I'm building from scratch with all 1950s and older parts. On the exception of just a few items. And here's a little peak into my garage!! Let me ask you............................................ Did I stand any chance of not becoming a car addict?!! LOL
