Hello I am thinking of using a set of 16" Ford five wide wheels on my build. I was wondering what size tires I could use on these wheels. There are 3 1/2 inches in width. I have also seen some hot rods with motorcycle tires on the front, anyone here ever done this? Thank you in advance
4.50, 5.50, or 6.00... I'm assuming you're using them for front wheels on a hot rod? Tell us the Application and we can probably post some pics. I'm running 7.50's on a 4.5" wide wire wheel in the rear.
You can run modern radial skinner than 235 & 65 series profile or larger, you might have to help the tire guy smash it down, but does work. I've done it with 17 & 16 ford wires & 17 artilleries & no tubes.
Hello Yes, I am wanting to use these on the front of a hot rod, although I do have a set of 4 wheels, so If I could use a bigger tire in the back and smaller in the front I would like to do that. But I have a wider set of wheels for the back if I cant. Thank you for the quick response. Please keep them coming and pics also.
The previous owner put motorcycle tires on the front. I don't like them at all, so off them come. They just don't look like a proper tire for a four wheeled vehicle... but I also don't consider mine a rat rod.
How do cycle tires last on the front end of a car where the forces are totally different than a bike?
For rats try killbillet .com For your question same as what chaddilac said, those sizes work well , check out coker tire .com
Thank you to those that replied to my questions ..and for the wonderfully warm and inviting welcome from others.....
The wheels you have are for 60 hp 37-9 Fords, since they are 3.5" wide they pinch in the tire a little more and create a curved tread profile with a larger tire. These wheels also come in 4" and 5 " and 5.5 " versions. The 5 and 5.5" units are harder to find, the 4 " units are easier and are more friendly to larger tire sizes. In any case they should be run with tubes to prevent the rivets from leaking air and do not have the safety lip provisions that tubeless tire rims are made with. How much for the safety racing dust cap?
