this an extension of my earlier thread, trad, sled,or strt rod. what is your complete recipe for a tail draggin sled, what is frowned upon in a sled, which suspension, eng/trans combo. please list everything you would put in your sled, if you would please it would help me stay true to the style. thanks for humoring me but i am being serious.lol
Are you building a traditional sled or a traditionaly styled sled. If you are building a traditional sled as in period correct then the only options for suspension and drive trin would be what was available for the era you are treying to hit. Now if you are building a traditionaly styled sled as of late almost anything is acceptable. For me #1 would be static drop no bags, if it is a '50s model car than original front suspension would be what I would lean towards if earlier than a beam axle would probably do it unless it was a car that came with a knee action or king pin and A arm suspension. Engine again depends on the era. Early '50s for instance may get an olds or caddy valve in head but late '40s would no doubt have a flatty of some sort. Does any of that make any sense? Oh yea and disc brakes definately disc brakes drums are unsafe.
thanks guys, still deciding which way to go, this 36 plymouth with a 3" chop is borderline fat fender and fenderless coupe, keepin it mostly mopar ( 9" diff.)have all sheet metal, leanin toward low sled style skirts and all, but with bags and a 440& big mickeys hidden. thanks again
it will either get em wondering whats under the hood or what the hell is that guy thinkin. lol. either way i'l be doin it my way and if it hooks up, get out of the way
Its a pro street sled. Sounds a little confused as to what it want to be to me but what do I know. Actually I am a little confused myself. What is a ? Ya know I cannot with good conscience suggest that you build it the way you are describing. Granted you are going to do what you want but I can't imagine that it is going to be a big hit with the traditional crowd or the street rod crowd either. I'm just sayin'.
hi, thanks for the post. to me fat fender cars kinda start at around '40, the 36 without fenders is a little rounder than a 34, but still looks good . i think the 3" chop is what makes it that way. i will probably not go traditional or sled style. i just thought a prostreet sled would be kool and hard to spot the tires behind the skirts unless you got under or up close to the car. i have always liked both styles. thanks
Thanks for all the great input, i have decided to build my 36 plymouth as a comp. coupe ,mid to late 60'S style.
There is nothing wrong with mixing speed and customs. I cruise my ride everywhere and when I feel the need for a good night of drag racing.I knock off the skirts and slap on the cheater slicks. (1/8 et's 8.2) (1/4 et's mid 13)
