Last summer I was installing a pseudo-universal wiring harness and hiding some modern electronics when I had an idea to solve my glove box issue; don't have an insert, just a door on the dash, (try finding International KB parts). As I'm standing on my head pondering optimal wire routing I see my old mailbox lying on the floor, I just installed a new one at the wife's request and was waiting for "trash day". Anyway, a few inches removed and a couple welds yielded the following... Probably been done before, but I thought I'd share, cheap solution, & it fits perfectly.

  8. That's an awesome idea!!! I guess you could glue some material inside of it too if you wanted to keep things from rattleing around in there. Thank you for sharing the idea.

Getting it open is frustrating, the original push ****on on the lid has seen better days, something else on the "to do" list, fix one issue and create more...

You can cut a slot in the glovebox door for when you want to insert mail in there.:D

Very creative JJTF, consider it stolen!
I like the valve cover trick too, easy way to add a bit of shape.

  19. I am soooo glad you didn't make a hood scoop out of it. :D:D

Looks like a good fit and now you have a place to put your gloves.

Thanks for the kind words; if any of you IH folks has a functional latch for the door pm me, I didn't have any brain storms for that one (yet) without cutting the orginal door.

Nice idea, ...one thought, you might think about t******* the lower edge along one side of the mailbox off just a BCH, and a corresponding small wedge off each end, so as to create just a bit of a 'well" in the bottom so that items will have less tendency to want to slide out when you open it.

I was going to suggest a round of mailbox baseball but it looks like you put the old box to better use. Looks nice in there.

maybe some light weight magnets instead of the door latch? at least until you can find a latch anyway.
