my fathers first car was a 37 tudor humpback he bought in 58 drove it acouple of years then started to put a 56 olds rocket in it but then sold the olds and put the 37 in a barn and gave it to me in the 80s and i still own it
Glad to see you enjoyed my '37's. The first two pictures are what they looked like before I started on them. The next four are some of my favorites. I take pictures of every '37 that I see at shows. So far I have over 300 from shows in CT, NY, NJ, PA & MD.
Hi Dave, welcome to the HAMB. Great lookin' cars you've got there. The woodie is awesome, I wouldn't change a thing. I've always loved '37s, and never could figure out why they were considered ugly ducklings for so long. My very first car (circa 1959) was a '37 coupe, very similar in general appearance to AL's coupe in post #7, even close on the color. Someone had previously installed a DeSoto Firedome baby hemi. It was a real shoehorn job, no room for a cooling fan or anything. A totally inappropriate car for a 15 year old with absolutely no mechanical skills, but I loved it! Didn't get to keep it long. One of my "good friends" (ahem!) wanted to drive it, pulled a full throttle 1st to 2nd power shift and the ol' Ford toploader decided to call it quits in a spectacular fashion. Oh well.
Here's my 37.....wish it was completed. anyway, chopped 3", lined up the door post, layed the back forward to line up with roof, and layed the windshield back. Extended the front fenders 6" and reshaped the openings, move the crossmember forward 5", widened the front and rear fenders 1 1/2", It was my first big project and I cut my teeth on the metal work and gas welding, I sure learned alot. blah blah blah. sure wish it was done![/IMG]
We must like this one as have owned it 25 years On the road for around 20 of those. Got married in carried the kids in etc. Previous link to 37 coupes needing love. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398673&referrerid=19869
I built a SBC388 with Muncie M22, and was looking for a C1 Corvette to join with it, like the 57 I had years ago. But they go for crazy $$ today. I stumbled onto this 37 slantback as a roller three years ago. It was in pieces in the owner's garage, previously had a 350/350. The owner had it for thirty years, but got burned out with it. I have always been partial to 37 Fords. I yanked the Nova rear and replaced it with a Ford 9" 4.11. I haven't weighed it yet with the running gear I added, but I'm interested in what that will work out to be. On paper, these cars are quite light.
GMGrunt, that is really slick. The 37 is another model I would add to my already big pile of projects. CN
Yep, I'm another one who loves them......love your wagon.....I'd love one of those. Here's a couple of my slantback under construction......chopped 2" up front, 1" in the rear.....tons of metal work done.
oh yeah just picked this one up 1 1/2 years ago . work is starting on it soon . Working on a couple other projects here so I took this to a shop about a month a go .
I love my 37 humpie. 302/AOD restrod. Will be on the road again come April. Trying to get a pic in here? Doug
Does anyone have any pix of the trunk area and how the floor interfaces with the roll pan under the trunk lid? When will the hood side trim get reproduced? That is a hard to find item.
Always good to see another '37. Been driving mine for 25 years. Have 68k miles on it. Frank (The black sedan with all the doors)
Great front end on these cars. A guy around here has a 2 door rust bucket with a clear ***le for $1000 last I talked to him. Love to have it but never have an extra grand to put into something that rough.
What is everyone doing for headlights? I always wanted a 35 or 36 Got a 37 flatback and liking it. Have some work to do but looking forward to it. Just trying to make a plan for it right now
