I have a state of Texas BONDED title question. I have a vehicle without a title, so I am going the bonded title route. I called a auto title company that does this for a fee and they quoted me $639.00, but its a $500 vehicle and I dont want to be into it for that much,. so I am looking into doing it myself and just buying the bond (avoiding all the fees the above company was going to charge for filling out and filing paperwork) http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/titles/bonded.htm I was hoping someone who has done this could give me some tips. They have a few questions on the state form that if you answer wrong they will kick out the form. <O</O A. Is the vehicle you are attempting to title an __Abandoned vehicle __Junked vehicle with a Certificate of Authority __Nonrepairable Vehicle Title, or was the vehicle declared a __ public nuisance? (Please check the one that applies.) <O</O B. Is the vehicle you are attempting to title a Texas Salvage vehicle or Out of State Salvage vehicle? To me, none apply. It just doesnt have a title (for whatever reason over the past 35 years it was lost and changed hands a few times and now its history is impossible to track)) But I am worried if nothing is checked it will get kicked. Does anyone know the correct way to present it? <O</O THANKS
I think its going to be worth paying to have it done I was going through this process and just get ready for a lot of head ache they will take the NADA value of a vehicle and thats the tax you have to pay on top of more fees My rusted out 65 impala no trunk no floors holes through out was valued at 22'000.00 I will never buy a car without a title again after that car hope it works out man if you find a cheaper way please let us all know.
If the car is only worth 500 dollars and the previous owner lost the title, then he/she can apply for a lost title and it cost like 20 bucks, then he/she could sign it over to you...another 20 bucks give or take depending on taxes.... if the previous owner is not available, it will most likely have to be handled as an abandoned vehicle, the other choices will basically get you a title so the scrap yard will accept it as junk...
I got a bonded title on my '50 Sedan delivery and I didnt check any of those things. Went through without a hitch. Plan on spending from 300 to 500 to do it yourself. You will have to get it appraised by a dealer. They are supposed to charge a minimum of 100 for the appraisal. I found a dealer here that did it for free and just put on the form that he was paid 100 for doing it. He didn't even actually look at the car, I just showed him a picture of it.
Kinda feel like i am beating a dead horse,, GO FOR A TITLE HEARING, it is much cheaper and not as difficult as anyone implies, been there done that..
Texas title laws changed on September 1, 2011...I think its going to be much easier for us...I'll try and locate changes
That'd be great - still need to get my international titled ! Please post when ya find something out.
POST BACK FROM THE DEAD: I spoke to Brazoria County and Here is what they said. "Brazoria County does do title hearings, BUT ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THEIR VEHICLES FROM A DEALERSHIP" SO, I am stuck with a bonded title and the money that involves. I feel like legaly they should be required to offer me a hearing andI want to force the issue, but if I do, i think it would result in the hearing not going my way. So damn
Didn't use these people, but almost did... might be worth checking out for you. Sounds like they can get you a title using only a bill of sale in states where laws are more favorable, then they simply "sell" the car to you with the new title... so you end up with a legal title from another state that you can then use to obtain a new title in your own state. http://www.broadwaytitle.com/ ~Bob
They are WRONG,, I sent you a pm, not hear say, i have done it , actually the registration place were the people that told me to do it and where to get the info. Go to a different county. No need to pay the big bucks unless you don't want to do the footwork.Maybe call Tarrant county main tax office and get info there, That is where we all did ours..
The only other thing i can think of is maybe they changed the law first of the year??? Call a different county, If not maybe i can help you by rechecking with my county
just pay the loot and get it over with. i went through the same thing trying to find a quicker route to get a title for a project. sometimes you got to pay that extra $ to play.
Today, i went to my local tax office to get my sticker to renew my plates on my daily, while i was there i asked the lady if there were any changes to the title hearing process and she said NO !, I said so it is still the same ANYBODY can get the hearing her reply YES, told her someone said only if car was bought from a dealer, Her response, NO that is not so, I guess your local tax office operates different than the state laws, Or that Lady is much misinformed.
I got a bonded title last year for my 51 chevy here in Pasadena. I used Lawrence Title Service in Taylor,Tx. It cost 200.00 thru the title service and then 60.00 at the tax office to get it registered in my name. All I had to do was find a local car lot with a dealers license to verify the vin# and sign a paper. Then fax it over to Lawrence Title Service. this was the first time I have got a bonded title and it was fairly easy. And a total cost to have a title in my name was around 260.00
Do it your self, Follow the rules Texas has laid out. I am getting a 1958 Chevrolet on a title bond; the vehicle is $600.00 title bond will be $100.00 plus local fees and Registration. I am using Upshaw & Brown 801 S Fillmore Amarillo Tx.
bobkatrods, I'm just curious, how does the Title Hearing work? I'm sure others would be interested too. Thanks Marcy
