I'm glad to see other people taking on a flathead.
Started tearing down mine a year or so ago, but had a few set back.
Want to get back on it this winter.

I do have some tools, Mike. In case you need/want to borrow them.

  5. Hey Martin, thanks for the offer. I am working on procuring some of my own as I see more flat motors in my future!

I did finally get the last ***embly out. That ****er was stuck! I had to use the blue wrench.

I spent last weekend working on an engine stand adapter for when I really get into it.

Damn. But how did you get all them valves out?
That was the part where I stopped working on it. Couldn't get them loose.

Nice mount by the way. I'll have to get me one too.

  7. The old KD 918 in the skilled hands of one Mr. Kevin Lee made short work of all but one of the intake valves. The last one I had to cut, pound, and cuss at!

  8. The good news is that due to all the corrosion, now you're going to have to do a decent overbore (might as well go to 3 5/16) and a full port and relieve job . . . just the way I like em' boys! If you need any help/advise, just let me know.

Make sure you have it hot-tanked and magged first . . . once it p***es that, then have all the bores sonic tested for thickness. You need to know how much material you'll have to work with - before you select piston/bore sizes. Most of these blocks should easily go to 3 5/16.

    Keep em' flat . . .

  9. Thanks B&S. We are on the hunt for a machine shop versed in flatheads around here. Anyone have any solid recommendations?

  10. Who is the guy that has shown up to the HAMB Drags from that area in a tan 33/4 roadster, fullfendered and flatty powered with some crazy overbore/stroke? I would get in touch with him. That was the most bad*** flatty I have ever heard ont he street.

Cool, lookin promising so far, eh?

  12. Hmmm T. That car does not ring a bell. It is from the KC area?

Yeah, not too bad. I don't see any cracks anywhere, but the mag will tell the tale.

  13. It is from the MO area, not sure where? He was at the BBQ at JimCs on year two I know and I have seen it there since then.

  14. Looks pretty good compaired to when you started.

  15. Ok T, I searched some old HAMB Drags threads and found this. Must be the one huh?
I did not see any mention of who's it was however. It must be pretty built to be running 4 carbs!

I can't remember the guy's name, but I bought some parts from him decades ago. He was buds with Bruce Dahl, and did some bodywork I know. Might have raced flatheads as well (with Bruce).

  18. Thats the one! He gave us the details at JimCs BBQ but I forget. Ryan made a comment about the sound as he drove off.
