I am fabbing a sheet aluminum headliner to go inside my F100 cab. I plan to coat it with black truck bedliner coating. Any recommendations as to brands? And rattle can vs. roller application? Lowe's has it in the Rustoleum brand. Advance Auto has two different lines from Duplicolor as well a the Herculiner brand. Who has had good experience with any of these?
If it's a "headliner", use Lizardskin...it's a spray-in heat shield and it'll insulate the cab roof...I'm thinking black bedliner will only increse the heat from the roof on the inside...but it is your truck...!!! R-
I wouldn't think black would make a difference on the inside. I can see it if used on the roof where the sun would heat it up. Anybody else got recommendations on these bedliner materials? Thanks
What is it that you're trying to do and are you sure bedliner coating is the best solution? Have you considered lizard skin?
Herculiner worked out quite well for me in my bed, but buying a gallon can can be a little pricey if all you have to do is coat a headliner. It rolls quite smoothly & spreads evenly.
Can get a crackle spray paint for about $6 a can, Rustoleum, most hardware stores. Would probably do the same job as bedliner.
If it is aluminium why not simply polish it? it would look much better on a headliner. Im a fan of the bedliner look and feel, infact i covered my whole suspension components in the stuff, but i just cant see as headliner. Just IMO.
used Herculiner it to simulate a vinyl top on my beater. looks good on the outside and went on real well. It seems to be wearing good also. Insidethough, polish and shine, man. polsh and shine.just my .02.
I wouldnt use hurculiner. my .02 that stuff is **** I would do line-x myself and you sould be able to sweet talk them into doing it for $100 or less
We had Superliner sprayed on the bottom surface of the fenders on the 3W Coupe and also on the runningboards rather than using covers. It is done in 3 different textures, we chose the smoothest and have had no problems with wear on the boards or stars in the fenders.
Bought a small (quart ?) can of Herculiner at Menards. Had just enough to put 2 coats on the bottom of a "T" body and short bed. Worked good with a roller; but a little hard to get the texture consistent. It looked OK when done and was relatively cheap.
I used Dupli-color Bed Armour in the spray cans to do the top of my Model A pickup and it works great. Textured finish, water clean up, just do it in lite stages cause it will drip from the nozzle if your not careful. And do each coat in opposite directions so it covers and does strip on you. I used 1-1/2 cans. Average cost is about $12 per can.
Ever stuck your hand, or head, inside a blak painted car in 90 degree weather with the sun beating down...??? Black magnifies heat and radiates it...black bedliner will do the same thing...however, it is your car...!!! R-
Black on the exterior would soak up heat from the sun. On the inside, the color does not matter. It will not magnify heat from outside. And yes, I have owned several black vehicles. This truck will have a green roof FWIW.
I used Rustoleum bed liner in a can from Lowes with good results. It's only $15 a can. I coated my floors and trunk. Took 2 cans and got 3 coats out of it. It's worked great for waterproofing. It's pretty durable too. They also sell Herculiner at Lowes in smaller cans than a gallon. I didn't use it because it was about $35 a can and you didn't get that much more than the $15 can of Rustoleum.
IF the headliner is still removable, consider taking it to a shop that does bedliners (Rhino, Line-X) and have them shoot it. When I had my truck sprayed at a Rhino Shop, asked about spraying a fibergl*** firewall liner with a thin coat with minimum texture. Owner told me if it was ready to shoot and all they had to do was lean it on a frame and shoot when they were doing another job, would run $20-30 max. Canuck
