So I can see the need to paint my buick sometime in the near future after I get it get running, I've seen some of these cars with flattend clear or no clear at all. I think its a cool look, almost has a pearl quality to it, it also wont take ten years of bodywork. So it seems like a middle of the road thing, nicer than primer, easier than paint. Do any of you guys run without clearcoats? It seems like putting a flatening agent in the clear is the way to go. any tips? tricks? advice? opinions? Here is an example from the paso post that i really dig
We're spraying the body of my wagon in just a basecoat. Of course it won't have the protection of something that's cleared...but it'll be much better than primer.
You should really do a search on this. The subject has been brought up about a thousand times.... in the past year. There's a lot of good ideas/suggestions in some of those threads.
well, I have never seen it done, but at the shop we have a can labled "Matting Agent 1:1 flat 2:1 semi-flat" I guess This gives you the look and the protection.
well the link above told me that base with no clear is probably a bad idea, but what about the matting agent? can you use it in single satge and get the similar results? and in general, have any of you guys who have used the stuff have any tips? Tricks?
and in the old post, bobbleed said that "base only" route worked fine for him, you just have to recognize the limitations and put a good sealer under the color. But I'm sure the bleedster isn't driven through rain and snow? I'm thinking in terms of daily driver.
you have to be really carefull with just base it seems to want to rub off easy. i used clear with a flattening agent
THAT car and color RULE (in case you weren't aware of that). Any bigger / outdoor shots? Did you find that the flat clear 'killed' the look of base at all? Is it a straight metallic or a pearl? Cheers, TR
the only problem that i had was i tiny water bubble in the trunk because of the moisture(it was raining whe my brother shot it)the paint is 80% pearls
hey mate, a friend of mine had his car shot with a metallic basecoat with no clear and its lasted excellently with no problems. danny
