I am looking for a well qualified auto tech or rod builder or auto electrician to help finish off my buddy's '58 Impala build. We're in the SF Northbay area, Marin County, and the right guy can make some good $$$ if you're willing to work for a reasonable wage. The problem has been, everyone that has been contacted about finishing this job wants to charge SHOP RATES for doing SIDE WORK, (in someone else's shop!).

I figured I'd put the word out on my favorite place in the WWW and see if anybody out there wants to do some work for an old timer that's trying to finish off a build that was started by me over 20 years ago!

I did the body & paint on it about 24 years ago, it sat for a number of years, and my friend has been plugging away at it a little at a time for the past few years...and since he turned 80 last year, well, he doesn't crawl around on the ground as well as he used to, so he's looking for some help. He is very close to firing this thing up. Needs the wiring finished, and maybe if you're a good fit, the plumbing done. It's already got a 650HP Aluminum crate motor, ****** is in, suspension done, etc. Down to the wiring, plumbing & drive shaft.

So, we need someone to finish doing the wiring. The wiring, (a 20 circuit? kit by Painless, or some other major company), is part way installed, tail lights and back of car is wired, dash & gauges are wired, and the fuse panel is installed, but the engine needs wiring, and everything else needs to be wired. If you work well with the Ole' Geezer, you might get to plumb the thing, too. This old man has built more cars than most of us have touched, he's as honest as they come, and has no problem paying a fair wage to someone that knows their stuff. He has a place to work, plenty of tools, and will supply you with whatever wiring parts & pieces you need. But you'd better know your stuff, because he can spot a poser a mile away...Hell, I might even ask for a reference or two, but if you're a competent automotive tech, maybe out of work and looking to make some cash, this might be for you.

Contact me via PM and we'll talk more about what I'm looking for. Thanks, Guys!!

Now that I posted this thing, I started thinking it might not be OK to start a "help wanted" thread, so if it's not cool, moderators please go ahead and delete it!

Hummm, an idea...If the HAMB has one, I've never seen it, but a "HELP WANTED" section might actually not be too bad of an idea in this economy...just a thought... Thank you!

    Long Live The HAMB!

I think a help wanted section would be really nice for Hambers in all types of trades, to keep everyone working.

  4. Talk to Scotty Birdsall of Chuckles Garage, he should be able to either ***ist or point you in the right direction.

Last ditch effort...Well, I am still looking for someone that wants some side work and I got more information. The Ole' Geezer told me he'd pay the right guy $30.00-$35.00 per hour cash, and even cook him lunch! And the old man can FLAT COOK! So, if someone wants some side work finishing the wiring on a '58 Chev, PM me, maybe you can make some $$, and we can get this car finished and on the road. Kind of surprised at the lack of responses in this economy, I would have thought there'd be lots of qualified car guys looking for some work, but maybe things aren't as bad as I thought they are in the Bay Area.
    Thanks!

Shoot, if I lived out there, I'd do it for the food and a chance to help out someone, after all, I'm not getting any younger, might be in the same boat someday!

Thanks, Blinddaddykarno! I wish you were close by, too...You'd probably enjoy the stories that I'm treated to every time I hang out with the Ole' Geezer. He's been around, and probably forgotten more than I'll ever know about building cars...He just got old and can't work on them so much these days. I also wish I could do it, but my body says no way!
This car a real gem, and deserves to be finished. The old man turned 81 last week, and while he still works on it, he just isn't mobile enough to crawl around and do the wiring and plumbing. I just want to see this fire up and run...Oh well, I gave it a shot! Thanks!

Hope you find someone for him soon.
Better no one than the wrong person. I will think I I know anyone I could recommend. I have one guy that used to work for me that is either in san fran or san Diego depending on work. He does mobile boat mechanical work mostly.

I agree on being surprised no one is knocking the door down, but then again I could hire 4 more people today if I could find them at 25 an hour for great people. That is the catch.

I have been getting a lot of guys who won't work unless I pay them under the table cash because they don't want to get off unemployment. That means I have to pay taxes on that money = have to pay less per hour or it comes out of my pocket at the end of the year.
    So. No hire.
They work one week then think I will agree / change to under the table. I don't. They stay home on unemployment. I think bc the extended unemployment benefits. Interesting bc these are not ghetto people. Shows how free handouts will make everyone lazy. Interesting.

Give me a call sometime... a friend and I are just finishing up a wiring and plumbing job on a friend's 61 Falcon 2 door wagon. We're retired old car guys, and hot rod electrical and plumbing is the kind of automotive work we prefer. We're located in Santa Rosa, so we're half an hour to 45 minutes north of you. Craig, 707-544-1948 (please no calls before 9 A.M. I've got that retired guy thing down pretty good, and I don't get up early, but I stay up late).
