Holy crap...a CHOPPED Mayflower gasser! Who would think such an odd little car could look so cool!?! I love it! I wonder is there any life left in this old girl???
Thanks it's a cool little car i'd like to put it back like is was when raced ..i'm putting my D500 315 Hemi in it to give it a old school look Ron
Here's a picture of a friend of mine's Mayflower circa 1970.It had a warmed over 283 in it and boy was it a handful! Real easy to get bent out of shape when you got on the loud pedal hard.Paul eventually got into racing and campaigned an alcohol digger.
Bill when they opens the new drag strip what you say we build a drag car from the woods!!. I like the look of that.. That is very interesting..
I kind of recall a guy named Dan Green who showed this car in the early to mid 80's, om the ISCA circuit. Hope this helps. Stu
No he doesn't Ron.It was painted maroon after that pic was taken and I think it was sold in 73 or 74.
Standard-Triumph used the Mayflower chassis and engine for their early development work on what would become the TR2/TR3 series of sports cars. They essentially retained the Mayflower chassis for the new car but scrapped the small-ish engine used in the sedan for a 2 litre 4 cylinder designed by Harry Ferguson of farm tractor fame.
Very cool, I have seen this body style a couple of times in pix with no clue what it really was. Thanx for sharing this info and that stunning racer with us. Best wishes for rockin that unit another time. ~sololobo~
