My third Nats. I believe the top right car (T touring) belonged to Jim Scheutt from Indiana.

Purple flip top "T", John Leban from Indy.

Winged "t" I believe belonged to Bill Wendt now of Florida
Reconize more but can't remember the names.

I went to the Tulsa Nat in the mid 70s. My wife never wanted to go to another. I got her to go one more time to Gatlinburg in 1980 and that was it!

Wow, saw these photos and thought someone had lifted one of my old photo albums and scanned it! I was there on Saturday with all the rain coming and going. I was a high school student and had driven up for the day with a buddy in my '67 GTO. We must have been close to you at times. because I have photos of several of the same cars with almost the same background. I remember the psychadelic Lasalle roadster sounded extremely wicked! Also got pictures of the Uncertain 'T' and the California Kid and Jake's yellow coupe. What a blast! Thanks for posting!

That is cool that the car is still around. I'm sure it would have been sometime in the 80's the last time I saw it. Maybe Memphis Nats in '80?

Wow! These photos are great! I've been looking for Bill Wendt's T for over 20 years now. I called him years ago trying to track it down. Even got Pat Ganahl at Rod & Custom magazine to print a request for help in R&C. No luck. Glad to finally have a picture of this car, maybe this will help jog guys memories. Would still like to know if it exists. I didn't go to the '75 Nats, but DID go to Tulsa in '74. (I was 13 at the time) with my stepdad's yellow T-bucket. Built my own T in 1985 with a big influence from Bill's "winged T" ! I remember seeing it at the Friday Night cruise in Ft. Worth at the 7th street McDonalds, and at the Ft. Fisher Park show in Waco. It was outside in the park, and when I went in the visitors center, it was featured in a hot rod magazine for sale there in the store. Blew my mind. Bill had a 50 merc that I still dream about too! Well, anybody out there who reads this post, PLEASE HELP ME FIND THAT CAR! I would like to buy it and restore it before Bill and the rest of us are TOO DANG OLD!
Thanks for the memories and the help! John

  9. No fat people there. No HAMB then. Co-incidence?;)

The Bill Wendt 'T' still looks insane. I've got chrome envy too. Scary seeing all the no- front- brake cars.

Bill may not remember who he sold it to but I do. A friend of mine from Indy bought it. His name is Denny Wilson. He is alive and well living somewhere between Greenwood and Bargersville Indiana. These are both suburbs on the southside of Indy. His ownership was short lived. Dont know where it went after that but Denny might.....

I was there driving my first hot rod - a 1939 Ford Pickup...I lived in Nashville at the time. The Stude didn't come along until 1977...Funny you don't see a canopy nor one person talking (or texting) on their portable cow bells! And man how about those cut off Levis, leisure suits, and webbed lawn chairs...great pics...Joe

Raines: Thanks for sharing! I have a few of those albums myself. The black 32 chevy fordoor belong to a guy from this area named Steve Broadus. He's still around but I don't know about the car. I was there in my 34 Ford sedan. Great time! Tim

I believe that was the '80 nats in Mempho..I was there and while the big wigs were awaiting valet parking for the Phyllis Diller show a bunch of rodders were blocking their Rolls, Mercedes, etc. and forcing the valet guy to get a big tip or they wouldn't release the car! And some rodder had driven his Cadillac street car to the event and a bunch of rodders piled in the trunk...went thru the canopy as they were wanting valet parking...and suddenly the driver hits the electric trunk and there they were Ethel...4 or 5 rodders shooting the crowd a moon!! But when some West Coast guys started bailing off the balcony naked into the indoor pool in the wee hours of Sat. morning, the cops had had enough and made us all disperse...OH those were the days!!

I would've bet the farm that '34 Sedan with the Potter's trunk was Jim Smith's (then NSRA Rep...now co-owner with son Jason of the famous Hod Rod Garage, in San Springs, OK). I know Jason frequents this site. But Jason might not remember too many cars in '75 or '76 as he is still a youngster. However he is a wizard at building hot rods to this day. :)
