  1. I like the raked stance with the full hood. The Hudson, great choice.

Hood sides are for hideing SBC's. If you are a real hot rodder, and used your imagination, and talent,to be different, let people see it. Don't go too low for an old school rod.

  3. I like your last look with the rake. The Hudson, great choice.

Like Dale said, if you avoid the modern cliche versions of what guys think a early fifties lakes car looked like, look at period photos, and go lakes hard, you can build something from this that will be absolutely unique in the modern scene, be more "period" than almost all of the modern "period" cars are, and be absolutely mind blowing. After my daughter goes to sleep, I will take some time and post a bunch of period photos of the kind of cars I am talking about. Man, this thing has so much potential, I am foaming at the mouth here. I will dig up a larger shot of **** Fords chevy roadster later as well. Check the way he faired in the ****pit, and the lunch-box latches on the 3 piece hood.

That looks pretty dang good to me, Malcolm. Thanks for the pics!
    Can't wait George!

  7. You have a great idea there! I like the half hood to show off that motor. Maybe a Duvall style V windshield to add to the streamlining look. If you run hood sides ya might consider some unique louver or vent arrangement to enhance the look.

Saw a set of round hood side vents at the Chickasha swapmeet last month. Maybe 3-4 inches in diameter with a cool center bar - I'm thinking they were from a 30's Mopar or Studebaker? I'll dig for pics. Three or four on each hood side. I regret now not picking them up! They would be uber cool on that car...

The look seems fine overall. I'd vote w/the less rake mentioned, full hood and maybe two rows of the best 'sized' louvers. There may be a couple of presses in Maine, (NW Portland's Extreme Auto?) along with Paul Normand and Jim Lowery in NH.

IMHO.......the shorter wb looks better. If you need the stretch, the full hood makes the proportions look better. Again, just IMHO.

  10. I agree that lower looks much better at the rear. Maybe bring the front back up a tad. Seems a little too raked...

    ....PERFECTION!!!....

I really like the rake, the engine choice, and might as well build the full hood and sides, you could always run without the hood sides, with some leather belt straps....I really like this concept youve got going. I agree with all the comments that reference the big performance cars of the 30s. Oh and Im a ****er for 36 Ford wheels and caps. And if you have some extra bucks....in my minds eye of a rear view this thing would be just begging for a quick change rear end IMHO

I was leaning the same way as falcongeorge, he posted first!
No rake, full hood, possibly a track nose with a small radiator stuffed forward...
If I can find a close pic I will post it

That's an interesting idea... you guys don't think the track nose would make it even LONGER and more disproportionate?
I will try to mock something up tonight that reflects y'alls suggestions.

A deeper grill shell and shorter hood sides will reduce the visual length ...
Maybe not a full track nose , possibly a 32 shell with a narrowed grill and slightly longer on the sides , like the one falcongeorge posted ...

I voted for full hood, I like LabRats thoughts............BUT me I would not of streched it, somethings are best left alone and a 32 Ford is one. JMO
    Good Luck

  21. okay
the centerline of the front wheel does not have to line up the grill(like your pics)
having the grill forward 1-2 inches is ok
keep front of the headlites even or just behind the grill line
widening the grill shell an inch or so will also help shorten the hood

    so
    wb 110
    move grill forward 2
    widen grill sides 1

    body 112-113
hood top with a side valance 1 inch

    remote fan/radiator -shorten wp
    reverse the firewall

your engine will sit much lower than you picture oil pan

    get going

Hudson engine = cool. And the only thing cooler than a Hudson engine in that is doing it subtle like. So I vote FULL HOOD

  26. huh i have both and did not ever have em side by side duh...

  27. I'd go with the one with the hood top, I just like hot rods with hood tops, and then you can always take it off for a more aggressive look. I also agree on keeping all the exhaust and stuff tucked up and out of sight from the side, which is hard to do on a hi-boy. I've got my 29 as a full fenderd hot rod so it was pretty easy to hide stuff behind the aprons. I also went with a hood top. Good luck with yours, looks like a nice build.
