I lost mine when I was 15. I'm 48 now and everytime I pick up one of his tools I think of him --- and ask myself what he would do to fix whatever I'm trying to fix. My dad is slowly slipping away as I write this and may not make it to Christmas.
Say all you want to say while their here live with no regrets . I lost my Dad 6 years ago and have no regrets but I miss him every day the great memories keep me going forward. Hang in there your family and friends are your support don't be afraid to use them, I did and it really help in my hour of need . Take care, Rob.
Very sorry to hear the bad news about your Grandpa. It's always very hard to see the decline in health of your dearest friends/family members. If you can and while he's able, enjoy the simple times, at home, go for a cruise, take in a swap meet or whatever appeals. I don't like to talk as if he's already gone, however it's the little things that'll make you smile and know he's not far away. A song, a smell, something that happens when you're working on your car. Best wishes to you both.
I lost my Grandpa not too long ago back in Feb 28. 2009 to prostate cancer- He was the one that got me into Old Things and Antiques and that's when I began to grow into the Traditional Hot Rodding scene. I kissed him goodnight before he went into coma and said I'll always love you and then that night I dreamed that he was ready, and told me 'goodbye' and gave me one last embracing hug. It's strange how When A loved one p***es, I dream of them saying goodbye. Maybe you'll see him again in a dream one day.
Was told this am by the ho****e nurse that he has roughly 24-48 hours..Not looking forward to tomorrow...spending the night with him.
The fact that you will be with him, means more to him than anything in the world. Be strong. You are all in my prayers tonight.
Keep the pictures, keep the memories and he will live forever with you... I know how you feel here partner, but everytime I look at the old 39 Ford my Grandpa gave me, I remember him, and those memories always make me smile.
If you need any help or someone to talk to....give me a call....just pm for phone number....regards Gump
53olds i have lost all but one of my grandparents. i feel your pain. my thoughts and prayers go out to you. seek comfort from your family and friends. God bless.
My dad told the same stories so many times that I could have numbered them and he could have called out the number and I would remember every word from previous times but I miss that now that he has been gone for nine years. I wasn't around my paternal grandfather all that much and am probably better for it as he wasn't the best husband or father but he was a hell of a carpenter. My maternal grandfather though was one of the world cl*** men of the world. When he and my grandmother got married in the early 1929's they moved to a two room shack on the 80 acres that I live on now. He grubbed the sagebrush out with a team of horses and made a farm out of it that he farmed for the next 40 something years until he retired and rented it out. He took us grandkids fishing and taught me about bird hunting. Every summer he and Gram loaded some of the grandkids up and we went off to the beach either at Long Beach Wa or the Ocean Shores area of Wa. He helped me build the framework in the garage and borrowed a chainhoist from a friend when I needed to pull an engine. He used his 48 Chev one ton to haul parts home for me when I need things hauled. He kept my 51 Mercury out behind the barn for me when I was in the Army and the 8 years I lived in Texas. I lost him to Alzheimer's in the late 90's and it was pretty rough to deal with. I live in the house he built now so he is with me every day in some respect.
He p***ed today..I and his other loved ones were right by his side..2:30. He went peacefully..I feel empty.
Words, however kind, can't mend your heartache: but those who care and share your loss wish you comfort and peace of mind. May you find strength in the love of family and in the warm embrace of friends. God Speed to Grandpa, and prayers for you and your loved ones. Sorry to hear of your loss. Will be thinking of you through the holidays. Grab a hold of the loved ones that are still with you and they will get you through.
Keep your head up and remember the good times. My grandfather was pretty much my father (even legally took my grandparents last name) and I lost him when I was 17. I still remember getting the call from my aunt when I was home for lunch in high school. He was around to help me look at my first car, I still miss him a lot.
sounds like you have some great memories with him, never forget them and he will always be there to put a smile on your face.
Sorry about your loss Jon. I only know you from here and the Facebook group, but I know you were really close to your grandpa, and having lost my dad at a very young age, I know what you're going through. Lean on your family and friends, they're all there for you.
