  2. I'm a younger guy, but, I was raised to keep my ****skinners off of other people's stuff. Now that I think about it, that's exactly how it was phrased to me as a child. It absolutely amazes me to see people's "forwardness" when touching others' belongings.

I ran into one case on my buddies OT lifted pickup with a SBC in it that didn't belong. It had a straight axle swap, and you could see the bottom of a very clean SBC poking out. We came out of the parts store one time to find a guy with the hood up, kneeling up on the front bumper. My buddy has always been sort of tentative so I handled it for him. The guy was probably just out of high school, so I let him off with just being knocked on his ass from a push to the chest. He did apologize as he got up, and retreated to his car.

A few years later I was at a local cruise night. It was attended by ricers, muscle, and a few older rigs. I looked over at one point to see a guy leaning on the bed of my pickup. At the time it had really clean paint, and I kept it pretty nice. I went over, and pretty nicely told him not to lean on my rig. I walked back, and was talking with my buddies when about 3 minutes later I see him doing the same. I walked back over, and was more clear this time. When I got back to my buddies I was told that as I had turned to walk away he had turned and kicked my rocker as a big "F You" behind my back. I'm sure his friends were impressed. As soon as I heard what he had done I turned, and there he was again leaning against my truck. I walked back over, and grabbed two solid handfuls of his shirt, turned/lifted, and planted him on his back in the middle of the parking lot. As you can imagine, a fight broke out. I think he got my point. That was the worst I'd ever had to be, but, man did that guy deserve it.

Just this summer at a BBQ at my friends house I turned to find the hosts dad's buddy up to his elbows under the back of my '64 Impala. I already didn't care much for the guy as he is a worthless drunk, so, I went over and quoted my father to him in regards to "keeping his ****skinners off of other people's stuff". He started in with me about not worrying about my POS car. The conversation ended with him shoved up against a wall with my forearm jammed against his throat. I found it strange that a guy his age would overstep the common decency rules, but, that seemed to cure him. He hasn't been near any of my cars during BBQs since.

I may be crazy, but, I'm of the mind of the old west. Cars are a valuable tool that can alter someones ability to provide food for their family, or a roof over their own head. I think of cars like horses in the old west. You just don't mess with a persons rig, offense at minimum should be punishable by a solid ass whooping.

My wife's daily driver is a '61 Corvair wagon... she was at a high school cross country race watching Boy Wonder run one day while I was out of town... she calls me up and says "There's a group of 5 men standing around my car, and one of them is half sitting on the front fender!!! What should I do? I want to go over there are scream at him, but I don't know if that's the right thing to do, or if it will lead to more trouble!"

I told her to say as she walked up "Nice car! Is that yours?" When the guy said no, say "I know... get your ass of my car before I pull the gun out of my purse and shoot you."

She opted for something a little more refined. When she got up to the car, the guys (all grown adults) were waiting for the owner to show up so they could talk to "him" about the car. She calmed down and realized they were nice guys, didn't mean any harm, and talked with them for a while. She made a comment about the guy leaning/sitting on it, and he got flustered and apologized.

I was at a car show one time and some guy was opening up the door to a car I knew wasn't his... I said "Nice car! Is it yours?" He said "No" and I said "I know... it's my friend's... and it's expensive. If you scratch that paint, you're going to buy him a new paint job." He just kinda looked at me dumbly and I continued with "My dad always told me "If it's not yours, don't fucking touch it!" He mumbled something about me not having to be an ass or some-such, closed the door and walked away.

I wonder if anyone around told the owner what happened? I have no idea who owned the car, but it wasn't the asshole about to try that driver's seat on for size.

  4. Let's be serious though. If you're going to go through the trouble to steal a car, are you really going to steal a '50 Plymouth? Some people indeed...

it's simple really. People have NO respect for other peoples hard earned well taken care of vehicles... someone recently scratched the holy F*&$ out of my fender of one of my cars, it literally looked like they took one of those hand held rakes people use in flower beds on my car... had I caught them doing it, they'd have been answering to a pair of brass knuckles... it's sad that people are rude a$$holes...

and my 3 year old knows better then to touch ANY one's car, anywhere... I don't care if you drive a beat down 89 chevy nova with the paint falling off, he wont touch it, cause he was taught better then that, so there's no reason a 60 year old man shouldn't know better.

  6. I totally agree! But the law makes ya pay the hospital bills these days....Quite pricy I might add....

What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? She loves her '50 Plymouth, and I enjoyed mine too when I had one.

Fix your locks, that's why they're there. Just 'cause he was older doesn't mean he was harmless. Not all thiefs die young. He definitely wasn't inspecting the dash. He was looking for a wallet/purse/phone possibly left under the seat or in the glove box.

And CRASHANDBURNS, Plymouths are cars too.

  9. Correct response: "Maybe, but you certainly can't, so keep your fucking kid off my car, because if he scratches the paint you're the one paying to fix it!"

As for the OP, my first thought was "doesn't a '50 Plymouth have door locks?" I always lock even my beat up daily driver POS's. In fact when I get a new one I make sure the damned locks work before anything else.

Any more you have to contend with nearly 50% of the population that has no attention span, thinks they're entitled to the world on a platter, and has no real idea how life works after being brainwashed to the Dr. Spock, liberal socialist, do what makes you feel good way of thinking they teach in schools now. All you have to do is look at this Occupy movement, or a lot of these morons who manage to get elected to government - at any level - to see it's true, people are just plain stupid, selfish, greedy, and couldn't give a single shit about anyone else's problems or property. Stick it to the rich guy, and you own a nice old car so you must be one of those evil rich guys. It's a pervasive attitude through all kinds of things.

Hell, just driving in rush hour traffic in any decent sized city can show you that, between the pricks going too slow and the assholes trying to go twice as fast cutting around people so they can get to the same red light 10 seconds sooner, will show you how terrible people have become.

I was watching over the weekend at a model show I sold at, and about every other family that came along, some either kept their kids close, held their hands, or said outright "we look with our eyes, not our hands" or "don't touch" ... where the others, there might be a bunch of kids with no parent around, or they're standing right there and the kid is touching stuff, grabbing things... one moved something I had out and the mom told him "good job" even. I had to tell one kid who started reaching for the expensive stuff I purposely put up high to keep it away from them, that he could only touch it if he was going to buy something, which stopped him cold.

My only plan to combat it is to never have anything too nice - it's one reason why it doesn't bother me so much my old '50 Chevy has so much shitty bodywork in it. It's never going to be an expensive car, and it's rough enough there's no sense in trying to make it one, for what that would cost I could buy a lot better one in the first place. And the only way it's going to see a car show is if I show up pulling a trailer load of crap to put out at the swap meet.

After I grabbed his feet and dragged him out of the car onto the ground, I may have kicked his a$$ a little, then called the cops to report I caught a thief in the process of stealing my car and to send a cop and an ambulance....

It's the self centered, self entitled, rude, small percentage of the general public that are the problem..and they aren't reading these comments. Respect, doesn't carry the importance it once did. The times are changing, and not always for the good.

Most idiots will remember an encounter with John Law. Particularly if you press charges.

These days there's a very good chance that beating some fucktard down would land YOU in the county jail for a week or two. Yeah, this is me telling you guys something you already knew.

Yes 1964countrysedan....it is in fact a true story. We go to breakfast every sunday and decided to take the car for one of the last bouts around town before they start salting the roads for the winter. parked across the street and this is what we end up with. As we came out the front door the guy was just crossing the road to go look at the car. there was a lot of traffic (its a main route through town) so we had to wait a little bit until we could cross the street. the entire time we were watching this guy and by the time we got to cross the street he was already in the car. he never even looked over to see if anyone was watching him.

We're pretty used to people checking out the car wherever we park it. We love it. We love to talk about it with people and there are some "show boards" in the backseat that we put out at shows with the pictures of the entire process of fixing the car and we like to share them with people to show how much work we put into it. The "life story" of the car is also on there. We love to have people enjoy the car.....but helping yourself to the door and the front seat is definately not ok.

If you drive your car a lot and like to take it to dinner, shows etc. Its probably a wise idea to keep an eye on it. You'd be amazed at what you see if you set up a chair 10 feet away and just watch.

and just what is THIS supposed to mean? You can say what you want about '50 plymouths but this car has gotten a lot of attention in the past 6 months of it being back on the road and it was recognized and a trophy winner at the Chrysler Convention for it's age class. It may not be the most desireable car out there but it gets its fair share of attention. I'd say we did a pretty quality job on this old gal and because of that....it captures peoples attention. Say what you want about this car...but we love it and people seem to...too

I like it and you don't see one at every car show or cruise. Me, I just roll up the windows, lock the car and walk away.

Quit letting people get over on you. Doesn't matter the situation ,the asshole should have been put in his place so he would never pull this crap again. By the way nice looking Mopar.

You got that right. There are also distractions like texting, cell phone talking, nav. systems, & super loud stereos, to increase the chances of an encounter. Also, ever notice no matter how nice it is outside, that 90% ot dirvers have their windows up? I don't get it.

actually if it was a young kid we probably would've put him in his place. Its a lot different when your dealing with "elders". At least it is for me. Maybe hearing everyone else's stories and how they handled it will change the way we handle things if this were to ever happen again.

With that attitude, if you lived here someone else would probably punch you in the face daily, saving you the trouble of doing it yourself. :)

I think the comment was in response to her flying off the handle over a story she heard about a car show in NYC, a show she's never been to.

Farmergal. I can understand you had a good upbringing and was taught to respect your elders, thats good but its a two way street. Hell I'm 60 would you let it slide at a show if I just jumped up on the front fender, sat my drink cup on the hood and took a break ? Pulling a stunt like he did is not right no matter if hes 15-45-or 70. He did it to your car with no reprimand so he'll do it again, but maybe the next person won't be so easy going.

I have been to NYC and lots and lots of other cities, In defiance of reputation, (and what I expected), the folks in NYC were a far sight more polite than the folks in a lot of other cities/towns across the nation.

Some places that beat NYC for my "rudeness award" are San Francisco, Berkley, Portland, and lots of other places ahead of NYC.

  26. We were eating breakfast in Gatlingburg,Tenn. with a friend and his wife in one of the many pancake houses in the area in the mid 70's when she pointed outside and said to her husband ,"Look there is a man opening the hood on your 32 Plymouth!",before she finished the sentence Kenwas out the door.

The guy had just tossed the hood all the way over to the opposite side (4 piece hood) and it was actually hanging off the passenger side of the car.

We heard Ken yelling and cursing as he went out the door, his wife ask me to intervene and keep him from doing something stupid,as I arrived on scene he was pointing out to the man the fresh paint scratches and how the hood had flexed out of shape and just how much of an idiot he was to mess with other peoples cars,,his response was ,"I just wanted to see the engine "

Ken said," where the hell is your car?",,the man said I don't have a old car I'm driving that new Cadillac right here.

Ken turned around and started beating his fist on the hood and jerking it like he was trying to open it,,"What the hell are you doing the guy screamed",,,,,I just want to see your engine you F*#king Moron!

The guy said he was going to call the police,,ken said fine,,call them and we turned around and went back in an finished our breakfast,,the guy left the parking lot,,ken was still mad.

He and I had breakfast together a couple of weeks ago and the subject came back up,,we had a good laugh.

Regardless of where you go there are gonna be people that for some reason are inconsiderate of others,, whether it be with personal property or feelings and don't have the capacity to think of repercussions past the moment. HRP

To be honest, the only people in NYC who are rude are people who weren't born here. I guess they think that the "New York way" is to be rude, so that's how they act to try and fit in.

I was born, raised, and still live in NYC. I love it and wouldn't want to have grown up anywhere else.

I should have mentioned that in my time in Manhattan and Brooklyn, EVERYONE was polite, can't say the same about lots of other places across the nation.
