I'm in the market for a 60's truck to do push truck/ shop truck style... I had a 64 Ford short/ wide picked out, but I was too slow (I'll bet that an Orange County HAMBer picked it up)... anyways... How about some pictures to help me with style cues... thanks! Attached are pix of the 64 Ford that I missed and a 70 Dodge rendering that I did... not really in love with the Dodge (I know where 1 is) but I had a real hard-on for the Ford.
You'll have to explain "Push Truck" better for me, not familiar with the term. You mean like getting Lakes racers started push trucks? I don't know that they were doing that in the 60's and 70's yet. Here's a pic of my rusted out ****box. Not that it'll inspire you any, but pictures do tend to bring more replies to a thread.
The first time my dad EVER saw mags on a truck was on Gene Snow's silver ~'69ish Dodge truck. It had Cragars. He said it blew him away. He and his friends talked about it for days, lol.
Most of the ones I remember from goin to watch the midgets race had a big 2x12 plank in place of the front bumper.
This is a push truck that is at the Knoxville Nationals every year. He drives 300 miles one way to push off the sprinters. The truck has a hemi in it.
You and your "pit crew" sit up front. The kart, or race car parts are secure in the back, and if needed, you can hang a trailer behind it. It was my daily for about a year untill I upgraded to a 3/4 '72 Chevy truck.
It's not 60's, but check out the push truck on page 115 of the latest Rodder Journal (vol. 28). That's the real deal. That's how I remember them. Maybe someone can scan that pic and post it here? I don't know how and don't have a scanner.
I just picked up a 67 Dodge 3/4 ton from a fellow HAMBer and have been thinking along the same lines. Just saw a crazy g***er 1/2 ton early 60's Dodge truck on another site and it was waaaayyyyy bad ***!!!!!
Well, I haven't told the HAMB yet just because I have no pics, but I just bought 2 64 Fords. I am willing to sell the one that has a bad engine and NO ***LE. It had a brake job, and was painted inside and out, but the body and exterior paint needs minor redo. It's a 1/2 ton with a 6 in it. I'm keeping the other. Well, I guess I will now have to do a new post on my **** huh.
My '61 F100 swb had these brackets on the front that I think were used for a tow bar, but would make good brackets for a wooden push platform. I was thinking of making a push truck until I can afford the custom I really want. Thought about having a sign painter paint a cartoonish FED doing a burnout on the platform with some goofy made up drag club name on it. This was how I was going to drive it to Paso before I had to cancel the trip. Not sure if I'm going to go through with it now or not, but this thread is re-kindling the idea!
My pusher a few years ago at the Winternationals. The cost of fuel limits its use since the motor gets 8 mpg.
